Plot
A Secret Service Agent played by Gerard Butler is accused of attempting to assassinate the present President Allan Trumpbell played by Morgan Freeman. Desperate to expose the real culprit, Butler goes out of his way to save Mr President from the approaching danger, and clear his name of the allegation.
Analysis
Let me confess that I have not seen any of the earlier films from the Fallen series. Hence, my views are totally unbiased. But I have seen White House dramas several times before. And ‘Angel Has Fallen’ is the same standardization of the genre to be honest. Speaking about the plot, it is needless to say foreseeable. The sheer presence of lethargy is highly evident in its story line.
It is a pulpy action movie which targets a particular set of audience. An audience which prefers action all through the film, till the end. Which it successfully does. From the very first scene to its last one, it is pure mindless action. So mindless that, in the end, when everything else explodes, except our celebrity faces of course such as Morgan Freeman, Gerard Butler, Lance Redick, Butler and Danny Huston, they start fighting with a knife in the presence of a High-Speed Impulsive helicopter noise. And the backdrop of flying particles of dust like particles from the blast, which gives a tint of Bollywood for sure, where the hero and the villain typically break into a physical fight to prove their virilism.
Talking about Freeman, he never fails to bring gravity to a character. Though he hardly has any lines in the movie, there is a scene where Butler instructs him to keep moving inside a building amidst the firing, when one of his agents Sam gets injured in the action. The way Freeman calls Sam is convincing enough to perceive him as a leader to his people (just the way we aspire our leaders to be).
Another actor who was quite fun to watch is Nick Nolte as Butler’s father. He does outrageously unbelievable things, and the way he does them is hilarious.
Furthermore, there is not much to talk about the film. It is full of block headed action, ultra-violent use of weapons, little dialogues, over dramatized investigations – basically everything that we have seen countless number of times already. Basically a one time watch for action fans.
