What happens when you find out that an incorrect embryo has been implanted to your uterus? Directed by Raj Mehta, Good Newzz attempts to explore the emotional aspect of the goof up and the changing equation of the two partners inside a marriage. However, it does not translate into something constructive, though it entertains you to the brim.

Plot
It is what you have guessed from the trailer. A contemporary-working couple Varun and Deepti (Deepu) played by Akshay Kumar, and Kareena Kapoor tries to have a kid. After several unsuccessful attempts, they finally opt for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) by the advice of the doctor played by Adil Hussain. And that is how their world goes upside down when the two sets of sperm get mixed up between the two culturally different couple Honey and Monica played by Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Avani.

Analysis
It seems like Hindi films or films, in general, are targeting their select audiences. Apparently, there are two clear sets of filmmakers who are focusing on two clear sets of an audience – one based on who likes entertainment more and the other who prefers to dwell in more serious and somewhat disruptive content.
And although this schism might seem to be unfair, Good Newwz has a clear select audience that it was made for. So, if you are looking for a laughter riot without tumbling over the questions of ‘how’ or ‘why’ in-between scenes, then this is the movie for you.
The beginning of the film manages to tickle your funny bone with lots of jokes around the roles of ovary and sperm in a couple’s life. And I must admit, the sex jokes have been kept very real as a couple would converse, without reducing it to filthy comedy and that works on its favour. I could hear hooting and shouts from all over the theatre and the guy sitting next to me called from the top of his voice “thodi der aur chalne de yaar”, and that sums it all for the one set of audience.
Also what sells in the movie is its good looking sets, clothes and an extremely beautiful and larger than life Kareena Kapoor. And also it was quite refreshing to see Akshay Kumar in his not so patriotic mode and not preachy for God’s sake (good breather).
That way Good Newwz is an easy film that seduces you to crackle here and there despite you being sensitive about its callousness.
By the look of it, it is an extremely modern looking film, but by the heart of it, it is conservative and stereotypical. It works on the ‘blood is thicker than water’ cliche and how aborting a child is equivalent to murder.
And a more significant part of the film relies on the massy vs classy narrative where the Punjabi couple is continually serving themselves as a typical Punjabi couple who are supposed to be loud, extravagant, flashy and doesn’t understand English. Hence, the suave upmarket couple gets the license to put them down repeatedly till the time when one has to be emotional because a child is getting born, maa ki mamta … baap ka conscience and blah blah.
Hence, again the film will be a thorough entertainer to a larger part of the audience, but to some, it might be a one-time guilty pleasure who will not overlook the ignorance of the film either. However, how Good Newwz is different, it is harmless in its entertainment, unlike Kabir Singh that has the potential to infect the minds of its audience, at least partially.
To sum it up, this dramedy is a good entertainer and is like to build your jolly good mood.
I have a question to the makers, though that why on earth was Kumar holding ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, 😀 ? Now that looks like a real joke in the film.
