Movie Review: The movie is grand, captivating and mesmerizing. Alia Bhatt, our consistent performer, has yet again delivered on her promise and given us this treat called ‘Kalank’. She has made us believe that she can do anything and everything splendidly. She takes to the skin of the character, giving it a multiple dimension. Varun Dhawan, the confident charmer, has done the romantic boy role in this one. He has given a good performance, considering that this was his first period drama. He seems to have done lot of background research and hard work for his character. Madhuri Dixit, the evergreen beauty, has essayed her part beautifully, and has convinced us that she has a lot of talent yet to be delivered. She has again given unparalleled dance performances. Aditya Roy Kapoor has done his serious character handsomely. He has convinced us that he is a fine actor and can deliver more. Sanjay Dutt has played his age in this movie. He looks royal and amazing in his portrayal. Sonakshi Sinha justifies her presence with whatever screen time she has in this one. Kriti Sanon has performed an item number. There are some notable performances from other stars too, such as Kunal Khemu and Kiara Advani.

Production house Dharma Productions has given its Midas touch to the larger than life sets of this movie. The sets are grand and a visual treat for the eyes, and instantly transport us back to the British era just before independence. The locations have been selected in an aesthetic manner, keeping the script in mind. The VFX could have been better though, given the technological advancements in this field in India. The movie already enjoys a hit and trending title track. The rest of the music moves in synchronization with the movie. The costumes of the movie must be admired too. The Kurta-Pajamas, the Lehenga-Cholis, the Suits, the Jodhpuri Suits and the Pathani Suits, everything seems to have been crafted beautifully, with an eye on detail.

Our Verdict: Do watch this one if you have time during this weekend. It is a mature love story so might not attract teenagers. Rest assured, it is a must watch considering the heavyweight cast and their performances. The sets, locations and the costumes are an absolute delight for the eyes.
