Saaho Movie Review: An Outlandish Thriller Without Any Real Thrill

‘Saaho’ is an action thriller which is an “inspired” product from a French film called “Largo Winch”, starring South Indian superstar Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor.

Directed by- Sujeeth
Written by- Sujeeth
Produced by- Vamsi Krishna Reddy, Pramod Uppalapati, Bhushan Kumar
Starring- Shraddha Kapoor, Prabhas

Plot

‘Saaho’ has two storylines which runs parallely. The first story revolves around an undercover cop Ashok Chakravarthy played by Prabhas, who is in charge of a robbery case in Mumbai. He then stumble across Amritha Nair played by Shraddha Kapoor and falls head over heels with her. On the other hand, the second story is based on a different city where several gangsters are in the pursuit of a black box. Now what is in that black box? How the city of Waaji is connected to a world of Chakravarthy? Watch the film to find these answers …

Analysis

Good things first! As Prabhas told a tabloid that the film has hired “Game of Thrones” and “Transformers” action choreographers. So the action part of the film is at par to that of Hollywood cinema. And yes, occasionally it will remind you of ‘Fast and Furious’.

But what is the most crucial aspect of a thriller film? It is a no brainer; the thrill of course. And that is what the film could not hold well. The entire film unfolds one after the other in its own pace before caring for you to get a hold of it. As a matter of fact, it builds up its own suspense and keeps breaking it before the audience could make out of it to be a suspense in the first place.

Talking about our star cast, the South Indian superstar Prabhas, who is also popular for S.S Rajamouli’s epic film Baahubali has underplayed the character as oppose to his “larger-than-life-persona” which doesn’t make sense for a film like ‘Saaho’. Our other most popular ‘female’ actor Shraddha Kapoor has very little to perform just like the position of women in other major Bollywood films. Here I would like to intervene and comment that when the horizon is widening, why do leading female actors limit themselves under the name of a big male superstar?

Apart from that, another popular device in a commercial movie these days is to have a star cast. And to adhere to the trend, Saaho kills its solitariness by introducing way too many characters which are absolutely unnecessary.

Moving on, if we keep the stylish action sequels aside, Saaho has very little material to talk about. Apart from few well-taken shots and nicely choreographed and well performed stunts, the film could not come up to scratch. In fact, it is a freaky combination of an outlandish plot with no thrill.

PS- GOT and Transformers technicians have worked on Saaho.
