Downpour in place of snow, is that what you want? So, be it. You can ‘wash away’ the cold chilly vibe if you fly to the wettest place in India – Mawsynram. This Meghalaya beauty, lying in the Khasi Hills district, receives about 12m of rain every year. So, be assured your winters could be everything from a drizzle to downright heavy rainfall. Sometimes, thunderstorms are so loud that the locals make their homes sound proof by the use of thick grass. But, worry not. December and January are driest months here, so you experience soothing mind-freshening mizzle only. And, since it’s rainy here, you can count on this quaint village for giving you an ultimate experience with wind in your hair under blue skies, and amidst the lush greenery. Nature doesn’t get better (and wetter) than this!
By the way, Mawsynram has an interesting meaning. The ‘Maw’ in it means ‘stone’, which is a direct reference to its location of Khasi Hill area having the rare megaliths.
