A shrine of Sufi saint, Moinuddin Chishti, Ajmer Sharif in Rajasthan is popular as Dargah Sharif. It is among the most popular places to see in the country and a preferred pilgrimage destination. The Buland Darwaza, the Shahjahani Gate and the Nizam Gate, which is the main gate, speak of the associations of the Dargah with the era of royals. The Dargah compound is captivating. Once you enter, you feel and sense the positive vibes and divinity around you.

Celebration of Urs at Ajmer Sharif is the main attraction of the place. It is believed that everyone who visits the Dargah is blessed and their desires get fulfilled. The most overwhelming sight is to see people from diverse religions bowing to the Almighty under one roof. Be it Muslims, Hindus or Sikhs, you get to experience universality here. Make your visit complete by tying the mannat ka dhaga (holy thread) with a wish you desire to get fulfilled. Once it has been granted, visit the holy shrine again and untie the thread. Shahjahan’s Mosque and Adhai-din-ka-Jhonpra are two masterpieces of Islamic architecture, located near the Dargah Sharif.

The area around the Dargah Sharif is congested and busy with markets, and with hawkers chasing you to buy stuff from them. People usually buy roses from here to offer at the Dargah. You can also buy traditional chaddars (decorated sheets) that are available here. Early mornings are best for those who wish to avoid crowded places. Beware of pick-pocketers. No one is allowed to carry camera, mobiles, watches and other metal equipments inside and lockers provisions have been made for the same.
