Away from the chaos of Mumbai, if you are in search of a place to rejuvenate and relish some mouth-watering ‘Mumbai Chaat’ then Chowpatty is a place for you. It is like a world in itself, full of life and energy and assures an experience that leaves a mark. This beach is also considered sacred and the pious belief of devotees can be seen at the time of Ganesh Visarjan during Ganesh Chaturthi. The ten-days long Dussehra celebrations along the Chowpatty beach is also unique.

Girgaum Chaupati or Chowpatty beach, adjoins Marine Drive and it is at its best during the evening. It is crowded and always in action. The best is to capture the endearing sunset views and panoramic Marine Drive. Rent a Chatai (mat) and feel the life around you. Way-side astrologers, masseurs calling for massage, monkey shows, ferry rides and food kiosks – there is something for all. Feast upon the local cuisines like bhelpuri, panipuri, pav bhaji, ragda patties, and the list is endless. The best is to enjoy a ‘baraf ka gola’ (candies made with crushed ice) in cool breeze at the beach side.

Avoid going here thinking about a sunbath or a swim because Chowpatty may then let you down.

‘Ye hai Mumbai meri Jaan’ ! 🙂
