Now that the scorching summers are here, travellers are already dreaming of locations that can offer some respite. How about waterfalls this time?! India is blessed with a surprising number of water-bodies which not only accentuate India’s ethereal beauty but also are popular among tourists. Since most of the time I head to the beaches in summers, this time I decided to try out something different. I decided to soothe my soul by spending time around a waterfall! If you too are looking for places other than the beaches, here is a list of India’s most spectacular waterfalls that will rejuvenate your senses!
1. Jog Falls, Karnataka
This place offers an absolutely breath-taking view of a giant waterfall. It is created by the Sharavathi River, which falls from a height of 829 feet. The water here falls vertically after leaving the bedrock surface, making it a plunge waterfall. This waterfall is among the top ten highest waterfalls of India.
2. Dudhsagar Falls, Goa
The river Mandovi is the source of water at this waterfall, which is located at around 40 km from Panaji. The water here falls from a height of 1017 feet in a series of distinct steps. This waterfall is actually located within a wildlife sanctuary.
3. Hogenakkal Falls, Tamil Nadu
Located in the Dharampuri district of Tamil Nadu, this waterfall is the result of the fall of the River Kaveri. Interestingly, the name Hogenakkal means “smoking rocks” in Kannada. The water here is popular for possessing a curative property, which attracts a number of visitors.
4. Dhuandhar Falls, Madhya Pradesh
This particular waterfall in not known for its height but strangely for its roar. Located near Jabalpur, the waterfall is just 30 feet high but exhibits a very foggy effect, which entitles it to such a name. The grandeur of this waterfall is absolutely spell-binding.
5. Athirappaly Falls, Kerala
Located in the Thrissur District of Kerala, it falls from a height of 82 feet. The river Chalakuddy forms this waterfall, which has been a scenic part of a number of bollywood movies like Dil Se, Guru and Raavan. The Athirappaly Falls are also known as the “Niagara Falls of India”.
