Christmas is here and people across the country are celebrating this festival of joy with gaiety and enthusiasm. A number of events are being celebrated across India on the occasion; however, the best celebration is being held at Park Street in Kolkata. This also happens to be the largest Christmas carnival that is held not only in West Bengal but in the entire country. Thousands of tourists from India and abroad visit Park Street to enjoy the various attractions that the festivities have to offer.
On December 21, 2018, the eighth edition of the festival was inaugurated by the chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee. The Christmas festival at Park Street is being held for the past eight years and is observed with great pomp and joy by people of all communities.
Like the previous events, this year too park Street is wearing a festive look. The entire stretch from Park Street to Allen Park will be decked up with thousands of themed lights which will not only brighten the Christmas festival but will also welcome the New Year with open arms. Initially, the festival lasted around Christmas Day; however, over the years it has been extended and concludes on December 30.
Like always, the festival will offer numerous attractions to visitors. Treat yourself to scrumptious cuisine being provided by vendors dotting the Park Street. There would be 36 stalls from where you can buy your favourite food. A number of cultural programmes would also be held and on December 25, you can watch the fabulous performance of Buskers. They will sing carols between 4 and 10 pm at some spots on Park Street and Camac Street. However, the fun does not end on December 25, because between December 26 and 28, the fun will continue as cultural programmes would be held at the Chandranagore church. The festivities would finally conclude on December 31, 2018.
The festival is being organised by the West Bengal Tourism Department in association with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the Park Hotel.
