Day 1 – Kanyakumari to Thiruvananthapuram – (Kanyakumari to Leh cycling)

Good Food, Street Food
My 1st Breakfast Stop
Lush Green Countryside
Countryside of Kerala is really heaven on earth

I left my Kanyakumari hotel at 6:20 am and intentionally diverted from my planned route to Thiruvananthapuram. This route took me through really beautiful villages and it was completely green both sides of the road with coconut trees and various other plantations.I met my planned route, after riding for 24 kms, at Nagercoil where I did my breakfast.

Post that, I took NH 47 & kept on riding and crossed Marthandam, Neyyattinkara and Balaramapuram and from there, about 10 Kms away is Thiruvananthapuram. Being my first day of cycling, last 25 kms were really tiring  and my legs were kind of swollen up. I shifted the cycle’s gear to ease paddling but didn’t stop. I had already had about 6 litres of water but was still feeling very thirsty. It was 31 degrees Celsius. I sweated a lot and after 4 hours, that too stopped which indicated the lack of water in my body. I reached Thiruvananthapuram at 12:30 pm after having done 93 kms. Then began my hunt for accommodation which took one-and-a-half hours and riding 10 kms within the city for a cheap hotel.

Having said that, I think this city has scarcity of hotels. I finally found one by the name Tourist Home for Rs. 375/- nearby railway station as told by people at a Mosque who started talking to me after they saw my t-shirt. So this is how my first day of cycling went but doesn’t matter if I got too tired as I know it will go in a couple of days and strength will follow.
