2. Palace on Wheels

One of the leading luxury trains, which is the oldest and most iconic in India, is the Palace on Wheels. It transports you in style on the royal train coaches of British era, which used to be the personal coaches of erstwhile rulers of the princely states of Rajasthan, the Nizam of Hyderabad, Gujarat and the Viceroys of India. The Palace on Wheels offers a majestic and enchanting journey through the northern and north-western India, with its exquisitely crafted tour itinerary package of 08 days and 07 nights. It starts and ends in Delhi and covers two Indian states, many monuments and natural scenery. With the motive to promote tourism in Rajasthan, the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation along with Indian Railways launched the first Indian luxury train Palace on Wheels on 26 January 1982. It runs from September until the end of April next year and was refurbished and re-launched in 2009 to promote tourism.

The train covers: Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh, Sawai Madhopur, Bharatpur of Rajasthan and the Mughal Empire’s Agra (Taj Mahal) which is a UNESCO World Heritage Centre. The price of the tour varies between US$4550-US$12,600.
