Had there been wings to fly, the first thing I would have done was to fly over the snow clad mountainous valleys and rushing waters of the rivers. Well, having wings can be a crazy imagination, but having a bird’s eye-view of the spectacular mountains and lyrical water of the rivers is definitely not! Thanks to the technology that developed the cable-car centuries ago, travelling between the mountains has become a lot easier today! In fact, it is one of the major attractions for the tourists all over the country who throng the mountainous valleys to catch a glimpse of the pristine beauty of the hill-stations.

A cable-car is an aerial tram also known as a trolley or a gondola in various parts of the country. It is mostly found in the hilly-terrains to travel between one station to the other. It may have been developed for commuting purpose precisely but today it is more of a joy-ride at most of the hill-stations in India. Visiting a hill-station and not experiencing the cable-car ride is just like sitting on a horse but not riding it! Its incomplete! Although this joy-ride can be enjoyed at any mountainous region, there are certain places which offer exceptionally scenic views that are worth admiring.

Here is a list of some of the most pleasurable cable-car rides in India that must be experienced at least once in a lifetime-

  1. 1.     Gulmarg Gondola-

With a magnificent length of 4 kilometers, the Auli Cable Car is the longest cable-car ride in India. It offers a breathtaking view of the Nanda Devi hills and qualifies as the best winter destination in the Himalayas .

Located in the mesmeric Solang Valley in Manali, it is a ropeway-cum-ski center. It is a major tourist attraction of the city and is crowded by tourists every season. The view here is amazingly serene.

  1. 4.     Raigarh Ropeway-

This ropeway is used to travel to the Raigarh Fort, the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s Empire. It is a non-profit endeavor and only one of its kinds in India.
