The Magnificently Attractive Masroor Rock Cut Temples in Himachal Pradesh

Location: Kangra District, Himachal Pradesh

Visiting the popular Chamunda Devi and Naina Devi temples while exploring Himachal Pradesh is an obvious thing to do. But what most of the people miss out are the extremely beautiful and unique rock-cut temples located in the Kangra District of the state. According to the folklores, these temples have been built by the super-powerful Pandav, Bheem, all by himself. These beautiful rock-structures form a total number of 15 monolithic temples built and carved in the Indo-Aryan style.

The temples have been said to be carved out of a single rock or a huge mountain and no designing has been done separately. Shrines of Lord Ram, Laxman and Sita can be seen inside the temple. A figure of Lord Shiva can also be traced here suggesting that the temple might have originally been dedicated to him. A small tunnel connects the lower section to the upper section of the temple. A beautiful pond right in front of the entrance enhances the rustic beauty of this place.

The Masroor Rock Cut temples in the state of Himachal are the only rock-cut cave temples in the northern part of India. Not only these mystical structures, but even the picturesque landscape it forms is absolutely worth admiring. The unexplored magnificence of these temples awaits recognition!
