Meditation is an art to forget, forgive and thereby connect with the supreme power – the Almighty. It works like a magic wand and brings peace and positive energy, rejuvenating mind and soul. Sri Ramakrishna Math in Chennai provides the right ambiance and silence that is essential for meditation. Inspired from the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda, the Ramakrishna Math preaches secularism and, thus, is also called the Universal Temple.

The magnificent architecture reflects a blend of traditional Dravidian, Hindu, Buddhist and Jain styles of architecture. From its 60-feet tall gateway, one can possibly see the central tower (Vimanam) and the sanctum sanctorum (Garbha Mandira). The forecourt of the Ramakrishna Math is very Mughal in its styling with wide lawns, broad and colourful pathways and ornamented parapets.

The white marble statue of Sri Ramakrishna seated over a lotus, in the Garbha Mandira looks elegant. There are also shrines of Sri Sarda Devi and Swami Vivekananda on either side of the Garbha Mandira. There is also an auditorium dedicated to Swami Ramakrishnananda where satsang (spiritual talks) and bhajans (spiritual songs) are conducted. The central stairway adds to the beauty of the temple and lands in a wide portico (Mukhamandapam) that is supported by four columns, each of which is intricately decorated. The main prayer hall has adequate provisions for light and air with large windows and doors. The Vimanam is at a height of 102 feet and thus dominates the entire structure.

Besides this, the Math offers charitable medical and rehabilitation services. The temple is open to people from all religions, sect or creed and thus is universal in the true respect.
