Like a lot of people, even I was fascinated by those little blue bikes zipping past our way. So this Sunday, I with two other friends decided to explore our very own Delhi but in a new way; the Yulu way!
We planned our day near Lodi Colony, the South Central part of Delhi since we were riding the Yulu bikes for the first time and wanted to avoid any busy main road. The e-bikes were available at the Jor Bagh metro station. But when we checked the Yulu app at around 1’O clock, no bikes were available.
So, we headed to Chirag Delhi on the Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro and downloaded the app on our phones to register. First, one has to pay INR 250 as a non-refundable security amount and then we purchased a pack for three hours at just INR 95. But you can also buy a 6-hour pack for INR 185 or a Yulu Day Pack for Rs 49 for 2 hours ride as your convenience. We received a QR code which is used to unlock the vehicle.
After checking the battery and condition of the e-bikes (mostly in good condition), we practised in the service lane. We started our travel towards old BRT road via Moolchand and Lajpat to finally Lodi Colony. And that way, the main roads were inescapable.
Also, making the bikes run smoothly on the Delhi road was also pretty simple. It is a bike, so you won’t need to peddle it, and it runs on an accelerator and a brake. The real challenge for a newbie like me who has never even cycled on the roads is to be mindful of the traffic to remain safe. If you’re a pro on a cycle or scooter, the Yulu e-bikes are the most convenient to solve your last-mile problems.
Anyhow, it was a moment of victory when we reached Lodi Colony near the graffiti walls keeping my background of balance in mind. We completed the travel in 1 hour 45 minutes, and since we had some time in hand before completing three hours, we decided to try some stunts and pose for our Instagrams.
Once we were done with our adventure for the day, we checked the nearest stand, which was Jorbagh metro station to park our bikes and dropped them there and ended the trip. And quite a few people were standing and waiting for a bike.
Yulu first started operations in Delhi in 2018 in collaboration with Delhi Metro to combat air pollution as they’re fuel-free and run only on batteries. It took two years, but slowly and steadily Yulu is picking up its popularity, especially amongst youngsters.
Apart from Jorbagh and Chirag Delhi, Yulu bikes can be rented from Connaught Place, Khan Market, Lodhi Garden, Satya Niketan, Green Park Market, Dilli Haat and now Malviya Nagar.
