Chapora Beach in Goa

Chapora Beach in Goa

Arched in the silhouette of an 18th century Portuguese fort, Chapora Beach in North Goa is a perfect destination to spend some good time in fun, entertainment and pure leisure over the weekend. The beach is adorned by green hills, black lava rocks and palm trees bending over a pristine white sandy coastline. The atmosphere around the beach is imbued with a calmness and serenity that touches a chord in the heart of each and every tourist.

The beach is a favourite for all those who love the surf and the sand. Go for a leisurely walk through the Chapora Main Street and see the road take you through historic and traditional buildings, luxury restaurants, pubs and quaint little stores.

Apart from the white sand and the array of coconut palms dotting this picturesque beach, another major attraction of Chapora is the Chapora Fort. Situated close to the beach, this fort was built by the Portuguese in 1717 after displacing earlier fortifications. Watch the vast sea from the ramparts of this fort at leisure and soak in the environs. Explore the secrets of sandy coves and rocky cliffs of the nearby Vagator beach. Spend some time fishing or boat building.

The seashore of Chapora Beach has a lot to offer to those seeking some thrill and adventure as well. But remember that swimming at this beach is not considered safe as it has strong undercurrents. The beach has a night life of its own. Its understated natural charm has been maintained on a stingy budget through the unceasing efforts of local inhabitants. Chapora is a fishing village thriving with rural life. There are a number of restaurants and beach cafes along the Chapora beach serving drinks and delectable seafood, including continental and Goan cuisines.

So if you’re looking for an ideal getaway away from the hustle and bustle of your city, Chapora Beach is the place for you. While the beach attracts visitors all through the year, the best time to visit it is between the months of October and June. For accommodation, there are a wide range of options to choose from: one can find cheap guest houses, hotels, rented homes and comfortable rooms adjacent to the beach available in abundance.

Chapora is about 24 km away from the capital city Panaji in North Goa. It has round-the-clock bus connectivity with Panaji. A number of buses ply between Mapusa and Chapora beach. One can also hire motorcycles or taxis to get here. The nearest airport is at Dabolim, which is 29 km away from Panaji.  It is located on the northern side of the Vagator Beach, another popular beach destination in Goa, about 10 km from Mapusa.
