Lyme disease is a bacterial infection or disease that is caused by the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi. The bacteria are transmitted to humans by a bug bite from a bug after feeding on infected animals.<\/span><\/p>\n

The disease is most likely to be transmitted in wooded areas. People who own livestock are also at risk of getting Lyme disease.<\/span><\/p>\n

Symptoms<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The symptoms of Lyme disease differ based on the progress of the disease, and early diagnosis symptoms are milder compared to a later stage.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Red rash on the body<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Fatigue<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Headaches<\/span><\/p>\n

A blood test is the best way to rule out various causes if you feel any symptoms.<\/span><\/p>\n

A physical exam to check for any rashes on the body.<\/span><\/p>\n

PCR or polymerase chain reaction is another test used to evaluate nervous systems for Lyme disease.<\/span><\/p>\n

Treatment<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

An early diagnosis is the best way to stop the disease from progressing and treating it.<\/span><\/p>\n

The bacteria is difficult to treat. It can form cysts which are immune to antibiotics. Relapsing after treatment is a common occurrence among Lyme disease patients. Certain medications can provide temporary relief, but long-term relief is not promised.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other treatments are suggested for patients, such as an anti-inflammatory diet, regular exercise and proper, timely checkups.<\/span><\/p>\n

Is the disease contagious?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

There is no evidence that shows Lyme disease is contagious. It is an infection caused by a bacteria-carrying bug that can’t be transmitted to humans.<\/span><\/p>\n

How can you prevent this?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

To protect yourself from catching Lyme disease,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Wear full-sleeved shirts and pants when handling wild or non-domestic animals or walking outdoors in wooded areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Keep your house and your backyard clean. Make sure your pet is clear of all ticks or bugs.<\/span><\/p>\n
