Since 2013, Kohli has led RCB exclusively as the lone team to play for only one franchise throughout each IPL season.

According to the RCB, Kohli said, “This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me.”

RCB’s fortunes haven’t been fantastic since he took over. While he is the leading run-scorer in the IPL, Kohli has yet to win an IPL trophy. RCB didn’t clear the IPL’s league stage during his leadership in either 2013 or 2014. However, a win against Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier gave them a chance to advance further in IPL 2015.

The following year, Kohli batted his side to victory, scoring 973 runs at an average of 81.08 in the process. During that season, he had four centuries and seven half-centuries to his name. However, RCB’s IPL title aspirations were dashed as they fell to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.

The Bengaluru team failed to make it past the group stage in each of the previous three seasons of the Indian Premier League. Sunrisers Hyderabad knocked them out in the Eliminator round in 2020, and they couldn’t qualify for the playoffs.

In the current season, the franchise is ranked third in the points standings and has a good chance of making it to the second round once more.

Kohli, the IPL’s second-most capped skipper, has guided RCB to 60 victories in 132 games. At the very least, he’ll be their captain for the next seven games. Kohli is the league’s only batter to surpass the 6000-run milestone, having 6076 runs in 199 games.

Virat Kohli’s Captaincy Record

India’s T20I skipper, Virat Kohli, has a winning record of 65.11% in his lifetime.

His record is among the poorest in the league. India’s Kohli-led team has a 27-14 win-loss history in 45 games.

At 48.04%, Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have won 60 of their 132 games while losing 65 of them.

RCB has lost one IPL final and two championship games under Kohli’s leadership.

RCB also had a peak of 263 runs scored in innings throughout this time and a minimum of 49 runs scored in an innings.

Who could become the next RCB Captain after Virat Kohli steps down?

Yuzvendra Chahal

He has consistently been the RCB team’s go-to leg-spinner when they required a leap forward in their bowling setup. However, it is perceived that Yuzvendra Chahal would take over as commander when Virat Kohli steps down since his recruiting will give an alternate perspective while seeking their first IPL title.

Glenn Maxwell

The all-rounder from Australia has past captaincy experience added to his repertoire, which may be favourable for him. The Australian has recently filled in as the leader of the Punjab Kings and the Melbourne Stars. This is the all-debut rounder’s season with RCB, and he has not frustrated his franchisee so far, scoring runs in the opposition.

Virat Kohli, who recently resigned as captain of Team India’s T20I team, stated on September 19 that he would drop out of the race as captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the end of the IPL in 2021.
