It contains numerous layers of thin buttered sheets and is also known as Filo or Phyllo pastry. The baklava is stuffed with a lot of chopped nuts in between and topped with honey syrup. It is available in some bakeries like Nik Baker\u2019s and others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Preparation time:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">30 minutes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Serves:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">20-25<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Cooking time:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">30-40 minutes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ingredients:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For the baklava<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, cashew nuts and pistachios)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Phyllo dough (thin unleavened dough)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">1 cup melted butter\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">1\/3 cup sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">One teaspoon cinnamon powder<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">1\/3 teaspoon cloves powder\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For the syrup:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">1 cup sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">1 cup water<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">1\/2 cup honey<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Two tablespoons lemon juice<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">One cinnamon stick<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Grinded pistachios for garnishing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Recipe:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">1.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Lightly grease a pan with butter and set the oven to 350\u00b0F.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Freeze the phyllo dough for a while until it becomes hard and cold.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">3.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Knead the dough nicely and cut the phyllo dough in half so that the sheets can easily fit in the pan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">4.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Cover it with a damp cloth to keep it away from drying out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">5.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Grind the nuts in a processing bowl until they are in small pieces.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">6.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Combine the nuts in sugar and cinnamon, and cloves powder<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">7.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Melt a bowl of butter in the microwave.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">8.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Keep a sheet of the dough in the pan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">9.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Using a pastry brush, apply the melted butter all over the sheet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">10.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Keep repeating it 7-8 times until it becomes 8-9 sheets thick.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">11.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Paint every single sheet nicely with melted butter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">12.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Pour one spoon of the nut mixture into the dough layer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">13.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Cover it with two more sheets of dough and brush both of them with butter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">14.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Add the nut mixture into the buttered sheets of dough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">15.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Repeat the 12th and 13th steps until the whole nut mixture is used up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">16.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0The first layer of baklava should be 7-8 sheets thick, and each sheet should be individually buttered. Don\u2019t panic. If the sheets crinkle up, it will just add more texture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">17.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Cut the sheets into small squares using a sharp knife.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">18.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Bake the baklava at 350\u00b0F for 30-35 minutes; until the pieces turn lightly golden brown and edges appear crispy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">19.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Let it bake. Till then, make the syrup.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">20.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Place the cinnamon stick, sugar, lemon juice, water and honey in a saucepan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">21.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Let it come to a full boil, then reduce to medium flame.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">22.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Let the syrup simmer for 7 minutes until it slightly thickens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">23.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Remove the cinnamon stick with a spoon or fork and let it cool.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">24.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Pour the syrup over the hot baklava and place it in the fridge; let it cool for at least 4 hours.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">25.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Garnish some crushed pistachios over the baklava for a beautiful presentation and serve it in a glass bowl.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Baklava is a famous Turkish sweet that is crunchy, sweet and salty.
