It is in the abuser\u2019s words and actions and their tenacity in behaviours.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The abuser can be anyone, be it your spouse or romantic partner. They could be your business partner, parent, or even your caretaker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">No matter who it is, ask yourself, is it okay? Is it alright to get abused by someone? You don\u2019t deserve any abuse, and if someone does, then it\u2019s not your fault. If you are getting used by someone but are still unable to feel is it happening for real or not,\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">know the below-listed indications to confirm:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u2022Humiliation, negating, criticising<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">These are some points that are meant to forget your self-esteem. The abuse is very harsh and unbearable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Here are some examples:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Name-calling:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They constantly call you \u201cstupid,\u201d \u201ca loser,\u201d or curse words to make you feel down in public.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Yelling:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Yelling, screaming, and swearing are meant to make you silent and feel small and not good enough.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Patronising:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0They try to make you regret being alive like, \u201cAw, honey, I know you\u2019re trying your best, but this is just far beyond your understanding.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Public embarrassment:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They pick fights over small topics and will try to expose your secrets or make fun of you in public.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Insults about your appearance:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0They tell you, just before you go out or get ready, that your body is not perfect, your hair is ugly, or your outfit is disgusting.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Pushing your buttons:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Once your abuser knows about something that freaks you up, they would bring it up that thing or do it every time they get a chance.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u2022 Control and shame<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Trying to make you feel ashamed all the time by making you count your inadequacies is just another path to power.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tools of the shame and control game include:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Threats:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The abuser may blackmail you by saying that they would leak your pictures if you don\u2019t agree with them or take away your kids and disappear.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Digital spying:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They can ask or check your social media history, emails, texts, and call log. They might even demand your cellphone\u2019s passcode.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Treating you like a child:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0They direct you to wear clothes of their choice, what and how much to eat, or which friends you can see.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Using others:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Abusers will try to make you feel down by saying \u201ceverybody\u201d or saying &#8220;you are horrible&#8221;.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Accusing, blaming, and denial<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This behaviour comes from the insecurities of an abuser. They want to show and create a scenario where they are at the top, and you are at the bottom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Here are some examples:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jealousy:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0They constantly accuse you of cheating on them, even if you didn\u2019t.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u2022 Turning the tables:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They blame you that you make them lose their temper and make issues by being such a jerk and pain in their lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Denying something you know is true:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">An abuser constantly tries to deny arguments and even an agreement that already took place in front of you. They\u2019ll try to make you forget the truth. It is called gaslighting, which is only meant to make you question your memory and sanity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Using guilt:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They might say something like, \u201cYou\u2019ll have to do whatever I say\u201d, or Look at all of these things I\u2019ve done for you,\u201d in an attempt to get you on their way emotionally.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Goading then blaming:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Abusers know how to blame and make fun of you, and once the trouble starts, they start constantly blaming that it\u2019s your fault for creating it.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">What to do in such cases?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Trust your feelings and mind if you are mentally and emotionally abused. Remind yourself that it is not right and that you are not meant to live this way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you are in a dangerous situation and need to talk or find someplace to go, try to call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Exit the relationship or circumstance:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Just cut out all the ties if you are mentally fed up. Make it clear that it\u2019s over and never look back again in your life. You might need a therapist who can help to show you an easy and promising way to move forward.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Give yourself time to heal:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Try to talk with your supportive friends and family members. Talk to a teacher or guidance counsellor if you&#8217;re studying in school.
