Stretching across an area of 429.93 sq km, the park is the homeland of two-third of the One Horned Rhinoceros in the world along with other species of wildlife. It also boasts of\u00a0 having the highest density of tigers around the world and so was declared as a Tiger Reserve in 2006. Kaziranga National Park is one of the richest natural habitats of the wildlife in southern Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Located in the Nagaon and Golghat districts of Assam, Kaziranga National Park stretches across from east to west along the southern bank of Brahmaputra River. The establishment of this park dates back to 1905 when it was first declared as a Reserve Forest by Lord Curzon. It was only in 1950 that the park came to be known as the Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary. Kaziranga comprises of a vast expanse of marshlands, tall grasses and dense tropical forests along with a number of small water-bodies. Kaziranga is also known as a birding paradise and has been declared as an Important Bird Area by Birdlife International for conservation of avifaunal species. It has the highest population of the wild buffalos, Asiatic Elephants, swamp deers and the Royal Bengal Tigers in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Kaziranga has achieved notable importance over years, which includes the declaration of the park as a World Heritage Site. The park celebrated 100 years of establishment in the year 2005. Thousands of tourists visit the park from all around the world. Hotels and Resorts owned by the Assam Tourism Department provide comfortable stay and suits every budget.
