It is an undeniable fact that kids love animals and zoo is a place that is adored by everyone. Almost every Delhiite has visited the National Zoological Park or “Zoo”, as we call it, at least once in a lifetime. Zoo is one of the most interesting picnic spots in the town and can be visited any time around the year.

Delhi Zoo

Set up in the year 1959, the National Zoological Park is spread across 176 acres of land. It was built after the Indian Board for Wildlife felt the need of having a Zoo in the capital as recreational facility for the people. The park was formally inaugurated by Mr. Punjab Rao, Honorable Minister of the Government of India and was initially called the Delhi Zoo. It was in 1982 that the park was given National status and came to be known as The National Zoological Park. Many of the state governments and individuals expressed their delight by sending gifts of animals for the park.

The Zoo now provides shelter to almost 1,350 animals and birds of 130 species from around the world. It has a plethora of reptiles, mammal and birds belonging to countries like Africa, Australia, America apart from India. The place also houses a green island and a 16th Century citadel. The National Zoological Park is a place of heaven for the nature as well as animal lovers. On a stroll around the park one can see squirrels hopping around up and down the trees, the white-tiger roaring with authority, black-bucks hiding behind the trees, birds perching on the backs of the rhinos and several such amusing sights.

The National Zoological Park is one of the most interesting tourist spots in Delhi. School children and groups of families are frequently seen visiting the park for picnics. The Zoo also maintains a Library and a Cafeteria for the visitors. Mobile vans are also provided for the Zoo tour if you don’t want to move around on foot. Quick snacks are also available at the kiosks and drinking water is served at every 20 meters. A tour of Delhi can never be complete without a visit to the Zoo and Delhiites can vouch for that!

Delhi Zoo Address :

<div class="vk_sh vk_gy" style="font-weight: lighter !important;
