Due to this provision, any person could be<br \/>\ndeprived of even his fundamental rights. Along with this, this<br \/>\namendment completely dwarfed the judiciary. At the same time,<br \/>\nimmense powers were given to the legislature.<br \/>\n(d) The government also superseded the practices of the Supreme<br \/>\nCourt in appointing its Chief Justice.<br \/>\n(e) The term of the Parliament was also increased from five years to<br \/>\nsix years.<br \/>\n(f) Under the provisions of emergency, the various fundamental<br \/>\nrights of citizens stood suspended, including the right of citizens<br \/>\nto move the court for restoring their fundamental rights.<br \/>\n(g) Judiciary delivered various controversial judgements; did not<br \/>\nperform its role properly. No constitutional rule of law prevailed;<br \/>\nthis was called as the dark period of democracy; no media<br \/>\nfreedom and opposition was in jail. Judiciary and Executive acted<br \/>\nas one entity, with judiciary not keeping a check on the actions of<br \/>\nthe executive. By way of 42nd Amendment, detention was<br \/>\nremoved from judicial review.
