He formerly worked as a cabinet minister for the Himachal Pradesh BJP government.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He was the second CM to keep his job through elections From 2009 until 2012 and served as the minister of rural development. He was elected to the Himachal Pradesh Assembly from the Mandi district&#8217;s Seraj Assembly seat. He secured his first election in 1998 from the now-restricted Chachiot seat (Seraj).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Childhood and schooling<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Father name: Jethu Ram<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mother name: Briku Devi<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jai Ram Thakur was birthed to a poor farmer family in Mandi&#8217;s Village- Tandi, Tehsil- Thunag; he was the 4th of five siblings &#8211; two sisters and three brothers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">His father formerly worked as a mason. Jai Ram Thakur, who grew up in extreme poverty, had his elementary education at Kurani School. He then graduated from Vallabh Government Degree College Mandi, H.P. He earned a Master of Arts degree from Panjab University in Chandigarh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Overview of the family<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Thakur is the husband of Dr Sadhana Thakur, an ABVP coworker, and they have two kids. Sadhana is a physician born and raised in Jaipur to a Kannada family. They have two daughters who are pursuing MBBS degrees in Himachal Pradesh. The elder child is already enrolled at RPGMC Tanda, while the younger child was accepted at SLBSGMC Ner Chowk in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Political Journey<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">During his undergraduate at Vallabh Government, Institute Mandi, he became acquainted with the ABVP. He won his first contest under the banner of it, commencing his lengthy relationship with the student group.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He served in numerous Offices, namely: As Joint Secretary of the State ABVP in 1986, Organizing Secretary of the ABVP (J&amp;K) in 1989-93, State Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in 1993-95, President of the State Bhartiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha in 2000-03, Vice President of the State BJP in 2003-05, and President of the State Bhartiya Janata Party in 2006-09.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chosen to the State Legislative Assembly in 1998 and re-elected in 2003 and 2007 from the Chachiot Assembly Seat, renamed Seraj after the demarcation. Chairman of the General Development Committee and the Education Committee; and Vice-Chairman of the State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He was appointed to the Council of Ministers in 2009 and assigned the portfolios of rural development. He also served as Chairperson of the Rural Planning Board and as a representative of many other House Committees before being appointed to the Council of Ministers as Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister on July 9, 2012. I<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">n December 2012, he was re-elected to the State Legislature for the fourth time in a row.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">As the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The BJP secured a two-thirds mandate in the 2017 Assembly polls, although its Chief Ministerial candidate, Prem Kumar Dhumal, was defeated in the Sujanpur assembly segment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Given his strong RSS ties and political prominence, Jai Ram was the favourite for the top job and was appointed to govern the state.
