He has served as the Nadaun legislature constituency&#8217;s ruling MLA four times in Himachal Pradesh. From 2013 until 2019, he served as the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee&#8217;s head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Initial Stages of Life<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">On March 27, 1964, in the Sera village in the Nadaun taluka of the Hamirpur district, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was born into a Rajput family. His mother, Sansar Dei, works as a housewife, while his father, Rashil Singh, was just a bus driver for the Himachal Pradesh Transport Corporation in the Shimla district.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Educational Background<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sukhu attended Himachal Pradesh University and has legal training. He participated at the Government Senior Secondary School in the district of Shimla before receiving his degree from the Center of Excellence in the district of Sanjauli.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Political Career<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sukhu, a native of the Hamirpur neighbourhood, began his political career as a political activist at the Himachal Pradesh University for the Congress party&#8217;s National Students&#8217; Union of India (NSUI). In the mid-1980s and early 1990s, he became the NSUI state unit&#8217;s leader (1989-95). He transitioned to a full-time political career in the 2000s and served as the state Youth Congress president (1998-08). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He was elected mayor of Shimla twice (1992 and 2002), and after becoming secretary of the state division in 2008, he finally rose to state unit head. From 2007 through 2012, he served as the Congress Legislature Party&#8217;s (CLP) chief whip. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">His tenure as the HP congress Association chairman was marked by a tumultuous relationship with the state&#8217;s influential then-chief minister, Virbhadra Singh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Current Development<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sukhu is a local politician with extensive administrative expertise in the mountainous state. After the Congress party won the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Assembly Election election, he was elected as the state of Himachal Pradesh&#8217;s chief minister. He was appointed CM by Congress, and Mukesh Agnihotri was nominated as his deputy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">During his candidacy, Sukhu emphasised job creation&#8217;s value, focusing on replacing vacant government positions and generating new private jobs. Additionally, he promised to run an honest and open administration. He declared that it was his responsibility to uphold the pledges made to the public throughout the party&#8217;s campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to the Indian Express, \u201cWe wanted to secure power not merely to be in power. We want to change the system. Give me some time. We need to work hard, struggle to bring in a new system and new thinking,\u201d he said. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He used to have to work various jobs as a student to help the family&#8217;s finances.
