This also means you need to be ready with some quick snack or food at home to serve. Dahi Vada is one such item which serves the dual purpose of <em>chaat<\/em> or snack and can be served with the main meals as well. The <em>vada<\/em> is made with a mixture of lentils deep-fried in oil and cooled and then served with yogurt mixed with dry spices. It&#8217;s recommended that the cooled <em>vada<\/em>\u00a0be soaked in water for about an hour before serving, for best results. Dahi Vada easily lasts 2-3 days, so this festive season keep this <em>chaat<\/em> ready at home, for you never know who comes visiting and when. Serve and enjoy with this Dahi Vada Recipe.<\/p>\n<h2>Ingredients needed for\u00a0Dahi Vada<\/h2>\n<p><strong>(serves 4)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For Vada:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Dhuli Urad Dal<\/em> &#8211; 1 cup<\/li>\n<li><em>Jeera<\/em> &#8211; 1 tsp<\/li>\n<li><em>Hing<\/em> &#8211; 1\/2 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Cashew nuts &#8211; 8 to 10, split in halves<\/li>\n<li>Raisins &#8211; 8 to 10<\/li>\n<li>Salt to taste<\/li>\n<li>Oil for frying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For assembly:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Dahi<\/em> &#8211; 3 cup<\/li>\n<li><em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Imli chutney<\/em> &#8211; 1 tbsp<\/li>\n<li>Roasted <em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">zeera<\/em> powder &#8211; 1 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Red chili powder &#8211; 1 tsp<\/li>\n<li><em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Garam masala<\/em> &#8211; 1 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Salt to taste<\/li>\n<li>Coriander leaves for garnishing (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>How to make Dahi Vada<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>For Vada:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Soak the <em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">dal<\/em> for about an hour, drain and grind into a batter.<\/li>\n<li>Add the dry spices and mix well. Make sure the mixing gets some air into the batter.<\/li>\n<li>In a pan, heat the oil.<\/li>\n<li>Take a small batter and form a <em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">vada<\/em> shape, add cashew and raisins, cover with your fingers and then deep fry in oil till golden brown.<\/li>\n<li>Drain the oil and soak in water. Keep aside.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For assembly:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Place the <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">vadas<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"> in the serving dish.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Add whisked <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">dahi<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"> all over.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Add <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">imli chutney<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Garnish with salt, red chili powder, roasted <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">zeera<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"> powder and <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">garam masala<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Garnish with coriander leaves (optional).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Serve cooled.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s the festival time and there are lot of people coming to convey the season&#8217;s greetings with gifts and all.
