Also known as conjunctivitis, it is a condition that affects the transparent membrane lining the inside of the eyelids and the white part of the eye. It is also called pink eye and can affect people of all ages. It is highly contagious and is caused by viral or bacterial infections. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The most common type is viral conjunctivitis. It can occur in people with a common cold or a respiratory infection. Although bacterial conjunctivitis is less common, it can be much more severe. It can be caused by not wearing clean eye contact. Allergic reactions to things like pollen and dust also cause conjunctivitis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Eye flu is commonly on the rise during the rainy season in Delhi. However, this year, due to the heavy rainfall, doctors around the city are witnessing more cases than ever. The reason is the hefty rainfalls, flooding, and atmospheric moisture. Saurabh Bharadwaj, Health Minister of Delhi, has himself stated that the cases are coming up due to humidity in the air. In these rising times of this flu, let&#8217;s understand it better.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Symptoms<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The symptoms of eye flu vary depending on whether viral, bacterial, or allergic. However, some common symptoms can be seen in all types of eye flu.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Watery or thickened discharge from the eyes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Swollen eyelids<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Red, swollen, and irritated eyes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sensitivity to light<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blurred vision<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Prevention<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Wash hands frequently\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The most important thing one must do to prevent eye flu is to wash their hands often. They must wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20-30 seconds. Although washing your hands every two hours is advised, it is a must after using the toilet, before and after eating your food, and blowing your nose.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Avoid touching eyes<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It is advisable for people to not touch their eyes, especially during monsoon. And if they do, they must wash their eyes and hands as soon as possible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Wear sunglasses<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It is suggested to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from dust and debris. It is advisable not to go out during rainy or windy days without wearing sunglasses and a hat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Clean your contact lenses<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Contact lenses must be cleaned thoroughly after and before use. It is advisable to wear contact lenses only for a short period.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Do not share personal eye-related items<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">One must avoid sharing items like eye contact, eye makeup, sunglasses, towels, or other items used on the eyes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Cure<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Eye flu is cured within some weeks or, at most, a month in most cases. However, there are some things one can do to fasten the curing process and relieve their eyes from the pain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Applying warm compress<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Applying warm compresses to the eyes helps in reducing inflammation and pain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Use antibiotics drops<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It is advisable to use antibiotic drops for bacterial eye flu.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Use artificial tears<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Artificial tears help clean your eyes and flush out any dirt or debris.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eye flu is rising among the citizens of Delhi amidst the 2023 monsoon season.
