Today, Brand Equity –\u00a0 The Economic Times weekly feature, covers brands and their recall<\/a>. I decided to go ahead and check out what my association \/ recall \/ first reaction with each of them is. Here is a rundown on the ranking with my comments \/ remarks \/ observations.<\/p>\n

1. Colgate – Not my regular toothpaste, use it when traveling or when presented with a free one in a travel kit.<\/p>\n

2. Dettol – Always at home, but Savlon is my strong second option.<\/p>\n

3. Clinic Plus – My head loves dandruff, Clinic Plus helps me control it.<\/p>\n

4. Lifebuoy – No user association, reminds me of\u00a0 “O boy, o boy Charlie, from Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola<\/em>.<\/p>\n

5. Lux – Not me. Blows millions on advertising.<\/p>\n

6. Maaza – Not good for me.<\/p>\n

7. Nokia –\u00a0A company which worked hard to make me shift from their brand to Samsung.<\/p>\n

8. Airtel – I am fed up with their line dropping challenges.<\/p>\n

9. Close-up – I am not supposed to be their user.<\/p>\n

10. Maggi – My daughter loves me for making it to her “exact taste” every time.<\/p>\n

11. Britannia – They make good biscuits and cookies but can’t get their packaging right. Their 5 Grain biscuits have a big-time packaging problem.<\/p>\n

12. Pepsi – Diet Pepsi!<\/p>\n

13. Thums Up – Works in the west & south of India.<\/p>\n

14. Kurkure – A snack with MSG.<\/p>\n

15. Surf Excel – I need the one which is for top-loading and it is not always available.<\/p>\n

16.\u00a0Bata – Hmm… They still sell and keep innovating and tinkering with their business model all the time.<\/p>\n

17.\u00a0Rasna – Gave Surf a run for their money.<\/p>\n

18.\u00a0Frooti – Wrote a slogan for them in a slogan writing contest – “Best route to fruit”.<\/p>\n

19. Vodafone – Have they managed their tax problems?<\/p>\n

20. Vicks – Don’t see it often.<\/p>\n

21. Dove – A soap sold beautifully.<\/p>\n

22. Tide –\u00a0I use it when I am in the US, it is always available next to the laundry machine for purchase.<\/p>\n

23.\u00a0Moov – Took on Iodex and won.<\/p>\n

24.\u00a0Good Knight – Can’t live without it.<\/p>\n

25. Pond’s – Still remember “sab kuch dikhta hai” and “Mummy jaisa sundar bana do na” campaigns.<\/p>\n

26. Mirinda – Kids and ladies who don’t drink vodka, drink Mirinda.<\/p>\n

27. Glucon-D – Always at home.<\/p>\n

28. Tata Salt – There never has been a serious challenge to its dominance.<\/p>\n

29. Parachute – Synonym for coconut oil.<\/p>\n

30. Ariel – I don’t differentiate between them and Tide.<\/p>\n

31. All Out – Brand confusion and dilution.<\/p>\n

32. Sunsilk – It is a shampoo.<\/p>\n

33. Pepsodent – Dented teeth?<\/p>\n

34. Bournvita – My daughter is a Bournvita girl \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

35. Fair & Lovely – Is it the one which Shahrukh Khan uses?<\/p>\n

36. Rin – Was on my mother’s shopping list 30-40 years back.<\/p>\n

37. Parle Products – Parle G, the only biscuit with my morning tea.<\/p>\n

38. Cadbury Dairy Milk – Made chocolate a gifting option in India.<\/p>\n

39. Vim – Cleans utensils.<\/p>\n

40. 7UP – A clear soda.<\/p>\n

41. Samsung (Mobile Phones) – Almost an Apple iPhone at half the price or lower. I use it.<\/p>\n

42. Pantene – A shampoo.<\/p>\n

43. Head and Shoulders – A good shampoo.<\/p>\n

44. Coca-Cola – It is Coca Cola, I don’t drink.<\/p>\n

45. State Bank of India – The big Indian bank abused by political masters for personal favours.<\/p>\n

46. Horlicks – My grandfather and my father’s alternative to drinking milk.<\/p>\n

47. Big Bazaar – Air-conditioned, enclosed flea market \/ street market.<\/p>\n

48. Limca – It has no alternative.<\/p>\n

49. Sprite – A soda.<\/p>\n

50. Cinthol – A soap from Godrej.<\/p>\n

51. Slice – A mango drink.<\/p>\n

52. Santoor – A South-Indian beauty soap.<\/p>\n

53. Complan – A drink for kids which competes against Bournvita.<\/p>\n

54. BSNL – Politicians milked it dry.<\/p>\n

55. Fanta – Father of all orange-coloured sodas.<\/p>\n

56. Medimix – A soap for keeping allergies away.<\/p>\n

57. 5 Star – It was the chocolate I grew up with.<\/p>\n

58. Tata Tea – They bought Tetley.<\/p>\n

59. Godrej No1.\u00a0 – A bath soap.<\/p>\n

60. Johnson & Johnson – A newborn \/ baby care brand.<\/p>\n

61. Boroplus – A cream for teenage girls.<\/p>\n

62. Fevicol – Good carpenter’s go-to brand for layering and pasting\u00a0jobs.<\/p>\n

63. Mortein – Something like Good Knight.<\/p>\n

64. Kissan – Sauces and juice-based concentrates.<\/p>\n

65. Zandu Balm – I prefer Amrutanjan.<\/p>\n

66. Sunfeast – ITC’s challenger to Britannia & Parle.<\/p>\n

67. Munch – A chocolate?<\/p>\n

68. Amul – Kurien, Cooperatives, Operation Flood, Women empowerment, Responsible organization.<\/p>\n

69. Crocin – For mild fever.<\/p>\n

70. Garnier – Makes shampoos and creams, essentially a ladies brand.<\/p>\n

71. Wheel – Counter to Nirma by makers of Surf.<\/p>\n

72. Ujala – For keeping white clothes, white.<\/p>\n

73. Amrutanjan Balm – Solution for headache.<\/p>\n

74. Kit Kat – I prefer 5 Star.<\/p>\n

75. Lakme – India’s “make-up” brand, originally owned by the house of Tatas.<\/p>\n

76. Nirma – Made Unilever go back to marketing school.<\/p>\n

77. Vaseline – Poor man’s Nivea.<\/p>\n

78. Nestle Milk Chocolate – No recall of having had it.<\/p>\n

79. Bisleri – Bottled water in India is called Bisleri.<\/p>\n

80. Aashirvaad – Good quality aata, especially “Sharbati”.<\/p>\n

81. Samsung – I trusted them 13 years back, it still works.<\/p>\n

82. Nescafe – For us, it was synonym for coffee.<\/p>\n

83. Lays – Before Lays there was Gold ‘n’ Crisp, Binny’s and Uncle Chips. Lays’ success killed G n C and Binny’s and they bought Uncle Chips.<\/p>\n

84. Harpic – Loos are cleaner.<\/p>\n

85. Boroline – Haven’t seen or heard for years. Was used for pimples and acne, I think.<\/p>\n

86. Dabur Hair Oil – Is it the same as Dabur Amla Hair Oil?<\/p>\n

87. Boost – It was the secret of Kapil Dev’s energy and later of Sachin’s.<\/p>\n

88. Rexona – It is a soap.<\/p>\n

89. Iodex – For muscle pain relief it was always Iodex, Moov came and Iodex was never the same again.<\/p>\n

90. Titan – My favourite watch brand and one of my favourite corporate entities.<\/p>\n

91. Oral-B – Status symbol among toothbrush brands.<\/p>\n

92. Babool – A medicinal toothpaste.<\/p>\n

93. Saridon – For headache.<\/p>\n

94. LG – Cheap consumer durables.<\/p>\n

95. Hamam – It was once “Tata ka Hamam”. Was not aware that it is still around.<\/p>\n

96. D’Cold – For relief from cold initiated headache.<\/p>\n

97. Hajmola – Necessary after a big Punjabi meal.<\/p>\n

98. Domex – Cleaning aid?<\/p>\n

99. Vivel – Shampoo & Soaps from ITC, right?<\/p>\n

100. Godrej Hair Dye – The brand before Hair Dyes were branded as Hair Color.<\/p>\n
