<\/a><\/p>\nLal Kot, literally \u2018red fort\u2019, is a walled bastion or military garrison located in South Delhi<\/a>. It was the first Delhi fort to be constructed of red stone.<\/p>\n One must visit the fort to get a glimpse of the city\u2019s historical majesty.<\/p>\n The Lal Kot was the first defensive construction of its time, erected by Anangpal I, the Tomar ruler in, AD 731. It has been built in oblong shape, and spreads over a circumference of 2.25 km.<\/p>\n The fort, also known as Qila-I-Rai Pithora, has seven gates in total. The most famous of them are Ghazni, Sohan Fateh and Ranjit, which have also been listed as heritage monuments by the INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage).<\/p>\n Presently, the fort is falling apart but even in its ruined state it displays the glory of the ancient times. One moves into the fort walking on a path paved with red sand. The site is now left only with the collapsing fort wall and citadels of Lal Kot; however, the view from the top of the wall compensates for the crumpled structure.
