It is very famous in the state and is made even for special occasions and festivals. The main ingredient in Bengali Cholar Dal is <em>chana<\/em>\u00a0(gram) <em>dal <\/em>and it gets its taste with a temper of <em>desi ghee<\/em>, coconut and other Indian spices. It goes perfectly well with rice or <em>roti<\/em> and is a great choice for a main course. Just like other lentil (<em>dal<\/em>) preparations it is fairly easy to make this and enjoy its distinct flavor. So use this Bengali Cholar Dal Recipe and try the classic Bengali preparation at your home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>All you need is (serves 2)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>For Dal<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Chana dal<\/em> &#8211; 1 cup<\/p>\n<p>Water &#8211; 2 &amp; 1\/2 cup<\/p>\n<p>Turmeric powder &#8211; 1\/4 tsp<\/p>\n<p>Salt to taste<\/p>\n<p>Sugar &#8211; 1 tsp<\/p>\n<p><em>For Tempering<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Desi ghee<\/em> &#8211; 2 tsp<\/p>\n<p><em>Heeng<\/em> &#8211; 1 pinch<\/p>\n<p>Cumin seeds &#8211; 1 tsp<\/p>\n<p>Bay leaves &#8211; 2<\/p>\n<p>Green cardamom &#8211; 4 to 5<\/p>\n<p>Dry red chilies &#8211; 2<\/p>\n<p>Cloves &#8211; 3 to 4<\/p>\n<p>Cinnamon stick &#8211; 1\/2 inch piece<\/p>\n<p>Coconut &#8211; 2 tsp (grated)<\/p>\n<p>Raisins &#8211; 2 tsp<\/p>\n<p>Fresh cream &#8211; 1 tsp<\/p>\n<h2>Bengali Cholar Dal Recipe<\/h2>\n<p>Preparation time: 5 min.<\/p>\n<p>Cooking time: 25 min.<\/p>\n<p>Soak the <em>dal<\/em> in water for up to 4 hours.<\/p>\n<p>In a pressure cooker take the soaked <em>dal<\/em> with water add turmeric and salt and cook for 2-3 whistles.<\/p>\n<p>Open and add sugar, mix well and keep aside.<\/p>\n<p>In a frying pan, take <em>desi ghee<\/em>, add <em>heeng<\/em> and cumin seeds and once they start to splatter add bay leaves, green cardamom, cinnamon, dry red chilies and cloves and saute till you get a nice aroma.<\/p>\n<p>Add grated coconut and saute for 2 min.<\/p>\n<p>Add <em>dal<\/em>\u00a0to the tempering and cook for 2-3 min.<\/p>\n<p>Mix the raisins and cream.<\/p>\n<p>Serve hot.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cholar Dal is to Bengal what dal makhani is to Punjab.
