Dosa – There is a 2,000 years of history to it. No it is not influenced by pancake.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A casual question to a friend who is good at number crunching got me working on this post. My question was, how many Dosa joints are there in Delhi NCR? Any idea? Our friend, Mr. Statistician came up with these numbers:<\/span><\/p>\n

Rs 300\/- and above – 100<\/p>\n

Rs 100\/-\u00a0 to Rs 300\/- 1000<\/p>\n

Below Rs 100\/- 10,000<\/p>\n

Hmm… was my only response.<\/p>\n

I thought through his numbers and realized that these numbers may not be too much off the mark. Dosa is now a street food of not only the six southern states and UTs, it is a popular street food in more than half of other states and UTs anyway.<\/p>\n

Having concluded that Dosa works as an all time meal, my second question went out to family and friends on FB and Twitter (both Mapsofindia’s and mine). The FB question was followed by over a dozen calls. The second question was – Where do you get best dosas? It returned a complex answer,\u00a0 my calls made me conclude that best dosas are still made by: Mothers; Friends Mother; Aunties; Bhabhis and Sisters. So we must keep that window aside and rephrase our question like this – of the dosas which can be bought, which is the best joint in your city? To this question there are a few suggestions:<\/p>\n

Delhi<\/strong> – Sagar Ratna, Naivedyam, Sarvana Bhawan<\/p>\n

Mumbai<\/strong> – Stall in Nerul Station, Mysore Cafe, Roadside unnamed stall at August Kranti Maidan, Gopal Krishna at Malad west, Khav Gali at Ghatkopar, Street side vendor at Babulnath Temple, Cafe Madra at Matunga, Vishwa Jyot at Navi Mumbai<\/p>\n

Kolkata<\/strong>: South India Club, Banana Leaf, Jyoti Vihar, Hotel Raj, Anand & Udipi at Chandini, Lighthouse Dosa<\/p>\n

Chennai<\/strong>: Sarvana Bhawan at T Nagar, Woodlands, Rathna Cafe, Madras Cafe, Udupi Hotel Mathsya in Chennai,\u00a0 Sangeetha’s, Woodland, Murugan’s Idli Shop (Shanti colony,\u00a0 Anna Nagar)<\/p>\n

Bangalore<\/strong>: MTR, Dosa Camp at Jayanagar and Woody’s at JP Nagar<\/p>\n

Hyderabad<\/strong>: Kamat Hotel<\/p>\n

Chandigarh<\/strong>: Sundarams (Sector 26)<\/p>\n
