Jal in Hindi means water while “jeera” or “zeera” means cumin, so the Jaljeera drink is primarily made with cumin water. Cumin, with its nutritive benefits, soothes the stomach and hence this drink is commonly used in summers to guard against excessive heat and as a digestive for heavy meals. We use other ingredients mixed in the drink to give nice flavour and aroma. For my tangy drink I mixed lemon extract, amchoor, and some mint leaves. It’s ideal to make this drink a few hours ahead of serving, so tht the flavours seep in thoroughly. I keep making this drink to always stock in my fridge through the summers, as this is one energiser which my family continuously needs when back from the scorching sun. I also serve it along with meals as a drink. I’m sure you have tried this drink before in restaurants and street shops, so why not make this with this easy Tangy Jaljeera Recipe!

Ingredients

(serves 4)

Mint leaves – 1 cup

Coriander leaves – 1/2 cup

Ginger – 1 inch piece

Black salt – 1 tsp

Regular salt – 1 tsp

Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp

Amchoor powder – 2 tsp

Lemon juice – 4 tbsp

Sugar – 1 tsp

Water – 6 cup

Boondi for garnishing

Ice cubes for serving (optional)

How to make Tangy Jaljeera

Preparation time: 10 min.

Making time: 10 min.

Cut ginger in small pieces and blend along with mint and coriander leaves to make a smooth paste.

Mix cumin powder, black salt, regular salt, sugar, lemon juice, amchoor and water in the paste.

Add boondi, mix thoroughly and refrigerate for 5-6 hours.

Serve cold.

Read More:

Sip In the Most Popular Traditional Drinks of India

Jaljeera word is made with two words “jal” & “jeera”.
