Coconut, for example, is widely used in preparations in South India; Mysore being one of the most well-known cities in the South also uses it in many preparations. Mysore Koli Saaru is one such dish, a preparation of chicken (<em>koli<\/em> referring to this in the local language). A dish high on spices and chilly with some coconut and poppy seeds, tastes really fabulous and can go well with most Indian breads, in fact I would suggest trying it out with <em>dosa<\/em> as well. The dish comes out really appealing red in color. If you love spicy dishes, you should definitely give this a try, here is Mysore Koli Saaru Recipe.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Ingredients\u00a0(serves 4 to 6)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Oil &#8211; 4 tbsp<\/li>\n<li>Poppy seeds (<em>khus khus<\/em>) &#8211; 3 tbsp<\/li>\n<li>Dry red chillies &#8211; 3 to 4<\/li>\n<li>Black pepper corns &#8211; 3 to 4<\/li>\n<li><em>Laung<\/em> &#8211; 2 to 3<\/li>\n<li>Cinnamon &#8211; 1 inch piece<\/li>\n<li>Fresh coconut &#8211; 1 cup (chopped)<\/li>\n<li>Onion &#8211; 1 &amp; 1\/2 cup (sliced)<\/li>\n<li>Ginger &#8211; 1 inch piece (chopped)<\/li>\n<li>Garlic &#8211; 5 to 6 cloves<\/li>\n<li>Tomato &#8211; 1\/4 cup (chopped)<\/li>\n<li><em>Dhania<\/em> powder &#8211; 2 tbsp<\/li>\n<li>Red chilli powder &#8211; 1\u00a0tsp<\/li>\n<li>Salt to taste<\/li>\n<li>Chicken &#8211; 800 gms to 1 kg (curry cut)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_32924\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32924\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mapsofindia.com\/my-india\/food\/mysore-koli-saaru\/attachment\/mysore-koli-saaru-key-ingredients\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-32924\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-32924 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mapsofindia.com\/ci-moi-images\/my-india\/2014\/09\/Mysore-Koli-Saaru-Key-Ingredients.jpg\" alt=\"Mysore Koli Saaru Ingredients\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mapsofindia.com\/ci-moi-images\/my-india\/2014\/09\/Mysore-Koli-Saaru-Key-Ingredients.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.mapsofindia.com\/ci-moi-images\/my-india\/2014\/09\/Mysore-Koli-Saaru-Key-Ingredients-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-32924\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ingredients for Mysore Koli Saaru<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>How to make Mysore Koli Saaru<\/h2>\n<p>Preparation time: 15 min.<\/p>\n<p>Cooking time: 1 hour 15 min.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dry roast poppy seeds, black pepper corn, <em>laung<\/em>, cinnamon and dry red chillies.\u00a0Add it to the blender and keep aside.<\/li>\n<li>Heat oil in a <em>kadhai<\/em> and fry the coconut pieces till lightly brown. Remove coconut pieces, add them\u00a0to the blender and keep aside.<\/li>\n<li>Fry onion, ginger and garlic in the oil till brown. Remove from oil and add it to the blender.<\/li>\n<li>Blend all the mixture with tomato and \u00a0little water into a smooth paste.<\/li>\n<li>Add the paste to the oil in <em>kadhai<\/em>, add <em>dhania<\/em> powder, red chilli powder and salt and fry for about 2 min.<\/li>\n<li>Add chicken, cover and cook till it is done.<\/li>\n<li>Garnish with <em>dhania<\/em> leaves, if you like.<\/li>\n<li>Serve hot.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each region in India has some of their own dishes, using local ingredients.
