Pir Haji Ali Dargah, Mumbai – Like an island amidst the Arabian Sea<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cAway from the non-stop-life of Mumbai, with my feet walking over the sand of the beach, gazing at the sheer beauty of the Arabian sea, and faith in my heart, I am walking towards a white spectacle \u2013 Haji Ali.\u201d This is what I can recall when I think of the Haji Ali Mosque and my experience there. Situated about 500 yards from the shoreline, like an island in the Arabian Sea, the complex of Haji Ali houses the tomb of the Muslim Saint Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari (R.A.) and a mosque.<\/p>\n

Haji Ali is not just a renowned pilgrimage destination for Muslims but also a popular tourist attraction of Mumbai. Anyone can visit the Dargah with no discrimination of caste, creed or religion and therefore, one can sense secularity, faith and spirituality inside the mosque. Thousands of people visit the mosque daily. Live qawwali and sufi songs in the compounds of Haji Ali adds to the pious atmosphere.<\/p>\n

With white domes and minarets, the structure of Haji Ali speaks of Indo-Islamic style of architecture. The Dargah is accessible only during low tide. Thus it is good to visit the mosque in the morning or evening. The pathway that connects the shoreline to the mosque is thronged by hawkers and beggars. Inside of the mosque is clean and well maintained, while the filth and mess on the pathway is disappointing.\u00a0You can also relish the famous fruit cream at Haji Ali Juice Centre in the vicinity.<\/p>\n

Overall, a visit to Haji Ali assures a pure and refreshing experience.<\/p>\n
