Sponsored by the South Asia Foundation, the pottery village is a small rural set-up located near Pitampura in West Delhi. The Foundation work for the upliftment of the poor while putting special emphasis on the craft sector. The pottery village, therefore, is home to hundreds of Rajasthani potter families who have settled here permanently.<\/p>\n

What it offers<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This artistic hamlet in the outskirts of Delhi provides you with a first-hand experience of exquisite ceramics beautifully designed. A tour of this village has been specially arranged to give you an insight of the magic of clay that works wonders in the field of handicrafts. Here you can not only experience the life of the villagers but also mingle with them to know about pottery and the Indian culture. What you will also be able to understand is how these potters work, what problems do they face and what role do the women play in their community. The villagers also share interesting facts about their customs and superstitions. Pottery-making sessions are also arranged for the visitors wherein one can learn the art of pottery and try your hand at the wheel. There is also an in-house souvenir shop to take back some memories of the village.<\/p>\n

The South Asia Foundation is a non-profit organization working extensively to bring about a change in the lives of the poor. The inhabitants of this village rely solely on their craft to earn their livelihood. The tour organized for the urban dwellers not only earns them their living but also works as a means of boosting their morale. A good amount of money earned goes to the Village Development Fund to be utilized for the benefit of the entire village.
