Mandore is a popular excursion point from Jodhpur and attracts tourists with its gripping historic association and relics. Though the main Mandore Fort is now ruined, it was once a graceful piece of architecture.

The “Mandore Gardens” is the key attraction of the place and is visited for its royal cenotaphs and lush greens. Built using deep red sandstone, the cenotaphs, or royal chhataris are impressive and were built on the guidelines of Hindu temples. Each of these cenotaphs is dedicated to the former rulers of Jodhpur- the most famous being the one of Maharaja Ajit Singh.

Near these chhattris is a huge hall called the Hall of Heroes, which has enormous pillars with beautifully carved and painted figures of Gods and Rajput heroes. There is also a Shrine of 300 million Gods, which has colourful images of various Hindu deities. There is a Government Museum (which has some sculptures) and a temple near the Mandore Gardens. You will find monkeys all around the garden. Some people even feed these monkeys as a tradition, particularly on Tuesdays.

One of the biggest disappointments in the Mandore Gardens is the lack of maintenance and care towards it. The garden is quite a mess with overgrown grass and litter; the reason behind this maybe the free accessibility and lack of entry fee.

For more related information, you may refer to the following:

About Jodhpur

Jodhpur Heritage

Mandore Fort

Jodhpur Fort

Located 8 km from the city of Jodhpur, Mandore was once the capital of the Marwar region.
