It\u2019s not always a good idea to step into the unknown realms when you aren\u2019t completely prepared for the show! Only if Anurag Kashyap would have slept over the idea of trying his hand in commercial cinema, his fans wouldn\u2019t have been so disappointed today! His first commercial attempt, Bombay Velvet<\/em> makes a stumbling entry on the silver screen. Having mounted great expectations for its grandiose and visual texture, the film turns out to be a big disappointment for Anurag Kashyap\u2019s fans!<\/p>\n

Plot<\/strong>: Bombay Velvet<\/em> traces the story of a young street fighter Balraj who dreams of becoming a \u201cbig shot\u201d someday! His desperation to make it to the top, takes away all his prized possessions.<\/p>\n

Performances:<\/strong> Despite a confusing plot, Ranbir Kapoor outshines in his role! He is quite intense and convincing as a na\u00efve thug. The honesty in his work draws you to him even when he isn\u2019t in his best self.<\/p>\n

Anushka Sharma makes good efforts in finding a place for herself in the film. She looks absolutely gorgeous in the classic look. The lip-syncing for the songs have been done so marvellously by her that you actually forget that she isn\u2019t the singer. Nonetheless, after watching her in NH10<\/em>, this is not exactly what the audience expects out of her.<\/p>\n

The most surprising performance comes from another amazing director who makes his acting debut with this film. Karan Johar leaves us stunned with his super-impressive cold-blooded streak that works perfectly well for his negative role.<\/p>\n

Satyadeep Misra performs remarkably well and does a good job in supporting Balraj\u2019s character.<\/p>\n

Vivaan Shah, Manish Chaudhary and Kay Kay Menon are quite refined in their roles.<\/p>\n

Music<\/strong>: Owing to the theme of the film, the music album of Bombay Velvet<\/em> is a classic compilation of tunes that take you back to the 60s. While some tracks manage to hit the right chords, the others are just too jazzy to follow up with the retro theme. The album, thus, proves to be a mixed bag of period tracks. Best from the lot has to be Behroopiya<\/em>!<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Good<\/strong>: The grandeur and magnificence of the visuals will traverse you to the golden era! Bombay Velvet<\/em> is a technically sound film that recreates the magic of 1960s Bombay so perfectly that you can\u2019t stop praising the creative heads. The background score and the music album compliment the setup perfectly. A decent performance by all the actor adds up to the film\u2019s worth.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Bad:<\/strong> Bombay Velvet<\/em> loses itself on a confusing plot that leaves you baffled. While the story is too clich\u00e9d to be watched, the fast pace of the film adds to the mess. The film is way below standard for a director like Anurag Kashyap. The duration of the film is unbearably long.<\/p>\n

Despite a polished look and an impressive grandiose, Bombay Velvet<\/em> fails to impress the audience. The film is more like a polished ornament that shines bright but doesn\u2019t have any value. The chemistry between Ranbir and Anushka is fresh and sizzling! But beyond its pomp and jazz, there is absolutely nothing that the Bombay Velvet promises to offer.<\/p>\n

Verdict:<\/strong> Avoid watching Bombay Velvet<\/em> to save yourself from the disappointment of wasting your time!<\/p>\n
