Over the last few years, however, Indian automobile manufacturers have flooded the market with a variety of hatchbacks and small cars designed to fit four to five individuals \u2013 ideal for an Indian family. It could be the higher incomes in urban families or easier EMI and repayment options offered by financial institutions, whatever the reason, more and more Indians are opting to buy their own cars rather than depending on public transportation. The country\u2019s youth certainly seems to prefer owning a small car to owning a two-wheeler. Here are top 10 picks for cars in a budget of\u00a0Rs. 5,00,000.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tata Nano GenX<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ex-showroom Price (New Delhi) &#8211; Rs. 1.99 lakh to Rs. 2.89 lakh<\/p>\n<p>Tata Nano was Tata Motors\u2019 way of making cars affordable for the masses. All seven variants are powered by a 624-cc engine. Five of these are petrol driven, one CNG fuelled and one runs on diesel. The two top end petrol versions are automatic or gearless \u2013 another innovation brought by Tata to the world of Indian small cars. The manual petrol variants provide a mileage of 23.6 kilometres per litre. The Nano GenX is hugely popular due to its pricing.<\/p>\n<p>Eight different colours are available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maruti Suzuki Alto K10<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ex-showroom Price (New Delhi) &#8211; Rs. 3.14 lakh to Rs. 3.95 lakh<\/p>\n<p>Following the discontinuation of Maruti Suzuki 800, Alto has been Maruti\u2019s popular entry-level car. While an Alto 800 version is also available, Alto K10 makes for a better buy in this budget range. Alto K10 has six variants including one CNG version. The others are petrol driven and are powered by a 998-cc engine. The petrol versions provide a mileage of 24.07 kilometres per litre under test conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Six different colours are available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chevrolet Spark<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ex-showroom Price (New Delhi) &#8211; Rs. 3.61 lakh to Rs. 4.18 lakh<\/p>\n<p>Chevrolet\u2019s entry-level model, Spark is a chic, compact car that comes in three variations. All three are powered by a 995-cc engine and run on petrol, providing a mileage of about 16.2 kilometres per litre. Built to accommodate five people, Spark boasts of stylish interiors and great design.<\/p>\n<p>Six different colours are available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maruti Suzuki Eeco<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ex-showroom Price (New Delhi) &#8211; Rs. 3.16 lakh to Rs. 4.19 lakh<\/p>\n<p>Maruti Suzuki\u2019s first multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), Omni was a great hit among Indians back in the 1980s and 1990s. Versa did not match up to Omni\u2019s success and then came Eeco. Maruti Suzuki Eeco comes in five variations, three of which are petrol-driven and the other two powered by CNG fuel. Sporting an 1196-cc engine with a power output of 73bhp and a torque of 101Nm, the petrol variants have a mileage of 15 kilometres per litre. Maruti terms this MPV &#8220;basic utilitarian&#8221; and though low on safety features, it is the best bet if you want to your vehicle to transport people and considerable amounts of luggage.<\/p>\n<p>Maruti has also launched an electric variant recently and plans to launch a diesel Eeco in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Six different colours are available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hyundai Eon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ex-showroom Price (New Delhi) &#8211; Rs. 3.11 lakh to Rs. 4.24 lakh<\/p>\n<p>With nine variants, Eon is Hyundai Motor\u2019s entry-level car specially designed for the Indian environment. Except for Hyundai Eon Era + LPG, Hyundai Eon Magna + LPG, all other variants are petrol-driven and offer a minimum mileage of 20.3 kilometres per litre. The top end variations Eon 1.0 Kappa Magna + and the Kappa Magna + (O) are powered by a 998-cc engine, while the rest with an 814-cc engine. While Eon has a general verdict of being a stylish car, Eon Sportz has a racy look and is preferred by the younger lot.<\/p>\n<p>Six different colours are available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ex-showroom Price (New Delhi) &#8211; Rs. 3.64 lakh to Rs. 4.53 lakh<\/p>\n<p>Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is one of the most popular small cars in the country. Wagon R comes in five different variations. The LX, LXI, VXI, and the VXI with Airbags are all fuelled by petrol and another VXI variant is run by CNG. With a 998-cc engine, power steering and power brakes, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has sold over 15 lakh units in India. The petrol variant provides a mileage of 20.5 kilometres per litre.<\/p>\n<p>Seven different colours are available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tata Indica eV2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ex-showroom Price (New Delhi) \u2013 Rs. 4.35 lakh to Rs. 4.70 lakh<\/p>\n<p>If you are looking for diesel-fuelled cars within Rs. 5 lakh, Tata Indica V2 may be your best choice. \u00a0Two variants \u2013 LS and LX &#8211; are diesel-driven and powered by a 1396-cc engine. Both variants offer a mileage of 18 kilometres per litre mileage. The new Indica eMax is powered by CNG and is eco-friendly apart from being fuel efficient.<\/p>\n<p>Four different colours are available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maruti Suzuki Stingray<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ex-showroom Price (New Delhi) &#8211; Rs. 4.15 lakh to Rs. 4.72 lakh<\/p>\n<p>Launched after Wagon R, the highly appreciated Stingray comes in three variations and is petrol driven with the mileage of 20.51 kilometres per litre. It sports a light-weight aluminium K10B 998-cc engine and classy exteriors. Stingray is one of the most stylish cars in the price range.<\/p>\n<p>Five different colours are available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Datsun Go Plus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ex-showroom Price (New Delhi) &#8211; Rs. 3.80 lakh to Rs. 4.86 lakh<\/p>\n<p>Datsun Go was upgraded by Nissan into Datsun Go Plus \u2013 a 1.2 L 1198-cc petrol-driven hatchback that provides a mileage of 20.6 kilometres per litre and comes with \u201cperfect circle bore machining\u201d. Datsun Go Plus comes with an advanced suspension system with improved performance and electronically controlled accelerator pedal apart from a speed sensitive electric power steering<\/p>\n<p>Five different colours are available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hyundai i10<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ex-showroom Price (New Delhi) -Rs. 4.39 lakh to Rs. 5.01 lakh<\/p>\n<p>Hyundai i10 comes in five different variations &#8211; four of which are petrol-driven and one LPG fuel driven. The car comes with a 1.1L iRDE2 1086-cc engine and provides a mileage of 19.81 kilometres per litre with low emission.
