Director Madhur Bhandarkar is known for exposing the other side of the glamour and showbiz industry with his movies. After unmasking the world of entertainment and fashion in his movies like Fashion, Heroine <\/em>and Page3, <\/em>the unconventional film maker new film Calendar Girls <\/em>has been released. <\/em>As the name suggest, the movie is about the lives of the calendar girls. This time, Bhandarkar has not signed any popular face from the Bollywood; in fact, he has presented the audience with five new faces to provide a glimpse of the real life of the calendar girls through his film. Will Madhur\u2019s charm and direction draw audience and critics to the theatres? Let\u2019s see!<\/p>\n

Plot<\/strong><\/p>\n

Calendar Girls <\/em>revolves around five girls who hail from different parts of the country \u2013 Nisha (Ruhi Singh) from Rohtak, Paroma (Satarupa Pyne) from Bengal, Sharon (Kyra Dutt) from Goa, Nandita (Akanksha Puri) from Hyderabad and also Nazneen (Avani Modi) from Lahore, Pakistan. The girls have been selected to pose for the most renowned annual calendar which is a joint effort between business tycoon Rishabh Kukreja (Suhel Seth) and his photographer friend Timmy Sen (Rohit Roy). What happens after their calendar releases and how their lives take a turn is what the film is all about.<\/p>\n

Performances<\/strong><\/p>\n

When you have seen awesome movies like Page 3, Chandni Bar<\/em> and Fashion<\/em>, and you get into the theatres just because it\u2019s Madhur Bhandarkar\u2019s next flick, then definitely you have high expectations from the movie. But, after watching Calendar Girls, <\/em>you will somewhat feel betrayed as this time Madhur has failed to meet the expectations of the audience. Gay designers, flashy Page3ites, high-profile people and many more from the glamour world; we have seen all of these in Madhur\u2019s previous works.<\/p>\n

The five actresses look each others\u2019 clones and lack the acting skills. At times, in a scene or two it seems that one of the actresses is getting better than her previous scene. But, overall they dissatisfy you with their similar expressions and disappointing dialogue deliveries.<\/p>\n

In a nutshell, Madhur has shown something very similar to what he has already shown in his earlier ventures. For a change, he himself has made a cameo in the movie and in one scene explains why he always make women oriented films.<\/p>\n

Rohit Roy, who is seen in a cameo in the first half has done justice to his brief appearance. Suhel Seth who plays Vjay Mallya does not have much to do in the movie; in fact, writers should have focused and developed a strong role for him in the script.<\/p>\n

There are five songs in the music album, composed by Meet Bros Anjjan and Amaal Mallik. The music and songs of Madhur\u2019s films have always been a hit but unfortunately none of the songs in Calendar Girls<\/em> has gained much popularity or a place in the musical charts. The background score in the movie will keep reminding you of the similar music that you have heard in Heroine<\/em> or Fashion.<\/em><\/p>\n

What\u2019s Good?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The only good point about the movie is that it turned out to be the same as expected \u2013 the same plot, structure and essence. The other good thing is Madhur has shown the massive use of social media among the models and actresses, which is of course a trending thing nowadays.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Bad?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The film lack newness; in fact, Madhur could have named it as a sequel to Fashion. <\/em>Enough of realism and dark side of the glamour world has been shown in Bollywood by now. You can easily relate to some scenes that you have seen in Madhur\u2019s previous movies; looks he has taken bits and pieces from his own creations and has brought them together in Calendar Girls.<\/em> If the script could have been stronger, it might have earned some points for the movie.<\/p>\n

Verdict:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Skimpy clothes, leggy beauties, cheesy dialogues \u2013 if you can tolerate and find these things impressive then you can go and watch Calendar Girls<\/em>; otherwise giving it a miss won\u2019t put you at any loss!<\/p>\n
