Calling the budget as the documentation of the journey of transforming, Prabhu added that the core objective is to make <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mapsofindia.com\/railway-timetable\/\" target=\"_blank\">Indian Railways<\/a> \u201can engine of employment generation and economic growth at national level\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mapsofindia.com\/my-india\/government\/india-dispels-colonial-legacy-merges-union-and-rail-budgets\">Merger of Railway Budget with Union Budget<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are the highlights of the new initiatives announced and measures proposed during the presentation of the budget in the Parliament today.<\/p>\n<h3>Overview of Promises Kept<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Recruitment process has been made online to ensure complete transparency.<\/li>\n<li>Action has been initiated on 139 Budget announcements made in 2015.<\/li>\n<li>Around 1,780 ticket-vending machines have been installed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1,600 km of electrification<\/strong> has happened in 2015.<\/li>\n<li>CCTV network has been provided at 311 railway stations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Safety record has improved<\/strong> as 2015 witnessed 20% less accidents than last year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Announcements for 2016<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>North-East India, especially Mizoram and Manipur, will be connected through broad gauge.<\/li>\n<li>The ministry will commission 2,800 km of new tracks next year.<\/li>\n<li>Three new freight corridors \u2013 Delhi-Chennai, Kharagpur-Mumbai, Kharagpur-Vijayawada \u2013 to be developed.<\/li>\n<li>2,000 km of electrification has been proposed for the next year<\/li>\n<li>The Ministry will soon include<strong> e-ticket facility for foreign debit and credit card holders.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>People can soon cancel their tickets by calling on 139 helpline number.<\/li>\n<li>Bar-coded tickets to be introduced on pilot basis to curb menace of ticket-less travel.<\/li>\n<li>The ministry will introduce<strong> double-decker trains on business travel routes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Fully unreserved super-fast trains will also be introduced on routes with dense traffic.<\/li>\n<li>Indian Railways will increase the quota of lower berths for women and senior citizens.<\/li>\n<li>Wi-Fi service can be availed at 100 railway stations this year.<\/li>\n<li>The Railways will install <strong>GPS-based digital display in coaches <\/strong>to show upcoming stations.<\/li>\n<li>Ring Railway will be redeveloped in partnership with the Delhi government.<\/li>\n<li>The Minister proposed elevated rail corridors from Churchgate to Virar and CST to Panvel.<\/li>\n<li><strong>India&#8217;s first rail auto hub<\/strong> will come up in Chennai.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No hike in railway fares<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Two dedicated freight corridors to be developed by 2019.<\/li>\n<li>The Ministry will use drones for remote monitoring of ongoing projects.<\/li>\n<li>Prabhu announced <strong>33% sub-quota for women<\/strong> under all reserved categories.<\/li>\n<li>Advertising revenue will be increased by more than four times in this fiscal year.<\/li>\n<li>The Railways has received in-principle approval for Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) projects.<\/li>\n<li>Optional<strong> travel insurance for passengers<\/strong> prior to travel is on the cards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Explore More:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mapsofindia.com\/my-india\/india\/the-patna-indore-express-derailment-brings-in-a-reality-check-for-the-safety-status-of-indian-railways\">Yet Another Rail Crash;
