In Andhra Pradesh, we have andhra thali which has a fried rice papad while in Kerala we are used to guruvayoor pappadums. In most of the parts, papad is used as an appetizer or along with the main course, while some castes in India consider it as a last course of a meal. Most of the buffet restaurants serve chili papad while I’ve seen rolled papad being served in most of Indian curry restaurants in the continents of Australia, Europe and Americas. I think a lot of us in the current generation would still associate papad with the women’s empowerment project and the television ads associated with Lijjat Papad.

I still buy this papad for my monthly grocery and love to have it with my rice or khichdi at home. I sometimes make the papad by roasting it over gas stove or just by microwaving it for around a minute. It is interesting how the same papad tastes differently even with these two methods. Sometimes, however, when you are in a mood for something chatpata, the same papad can be made into a masala papad. Here, I share this simple recipe to make your papad taste wonderfully well and go along with your meals or snacks.

Ingredients needed for Amazing Masala Papad

Papad – 3-4

Onion – 1 (very finely chopped)

Tomato – 1 (very finely chopped)

Green chili – 2 (chopped)

Green coriander – 2 tbsp (chopped)

Salt to taste

Chaat masala – 1 tsp

Lemon juice – 2 tbsp

How to make Amazing Masala Papad

Roast the papad in a microwave or fry it in oil over the stove.

Mix all the remaining ingredients in a bowl.

Keep the papad on the serving platter and sprinkle the filling on top.

Serve immediately.

Pappadum is one of the best accompaniments to Indian food.
