The fifth and the final cut off list for the colleges under the purview of DU has been published. And again, soaring DU cut-offs snip college-going dreams of many students.<\/p>\n<p>While the first cut-off announced on 29<sup>th<\/sup> June, 2016, had almost touched 100 per cent &#8212; with 99.25% for B.Com (H) programme, and 98% for BA (H) Economics programme &#8212; the fifth and final list stood at 91.75-95.75% marks for B.com (H) and 94.5-96% for B.Sc (H). For students who fall short of these aforesaid percentages, DU is no longer an option. The high cut-offs have lowered hopes of many students who religiously prepared to get admission into DU colleges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What if you don&#8217;t have a perfect 100?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unable to gain admission into DU, however, doesn&#8217;t mean the end of academic road for students, not in the least. Delhi\/NCR is home to a number of universities of repute that offer programmes in almost all disciplines. Apart from the courses, these universities also have the attraction of the best of infrastructure and co-curricular activities. Here are the options for students have not secured a seat in DU:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Full-Time Programmes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The private universities in Delhi offer professional degree courses in engineering, BSc in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, BBA, English (H), Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, and many other professional courses. Among the many private universities, a few noted ones are Amity University, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIP) and BR Ambedkar University, Ansal University, JRE group of institutions, ITM University, MVN University and Manav Rachna University.<\/p>\n<p>These universities are very flexible with the combination of subjects that a student wants to choose and are popular for collaboration with foreign universities for exchange programmes.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a list of courses available in a few of the universities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ambedkar University, offers specialised courses in the arts and social sciences such as English, Psychology, Economics and History.<\/li>\n<li>GGSIP University offers BTech, Bachelor degrees in Business Administration, Computer Applications, Fashion and Apparel Design, Physiotherapy, Medical Laboratory Technology and Nursing among other technical and professional courses.<\/li>\n<li>JMI also offers many professional undergraduate programmes in English, Psychology and Political Science, with a few new ones like bachelor\u2019s degrees in Dentistry, Fine Arts and Turkish language.<\/li>\n<li>JNU offers the more unconventional professional courses including Literature and Cultural Studies, honours courses in foreign languages such as Chinese, Spanish, Korean, and so on, which are combined together with other subjects like literature, history, geography, and many more.<\/li>\n<li>School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) in Delhi offers a five-year bachelor\u2019s degree in architecture and a four-year bachelor\u2019s degree in Planning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Studying out of Delhi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students also have the option of studying outside <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mapsofindia.com\/maps\/delhi\/\" target=\"_blank\">Delhi<\/a>. A few of the renowned universities include:<\/p>\n<p>1. Loyola College, Chennai<\/p>\n<p>2. St.Xavier&#8217;s, Kolkata<\/p>\n<p>3. St.Xavier&#8217;s, Mumbai<\/p>\n<p>4. Narsee Monjee, Mumbai<\/p>\n<p>5. St.Joseph&#8217;s, Bengaluru<\/p>\n<p>6. HR College of C&amp;E, Mumbai<\/p>\n<p>7. Mithibai college, Mumbai<\/p>\n<p>9. Christ University, Bangalore<\/p>\n<p><strong>Distance Education<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students also have the option of securing a degree of their choice through the distance education offered by Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) and the School of Open Learning (SOL), Delhi University. IGNOU offers almost all programmes available at the full-time programmes, while SOL offers BA Programme, B.Com pass, B.Com (H), BA (hons) English and BA (hons) Political Science.<\/p>\n<p>With distance education, students have the choice of either attending classes or preparing by themselves before appearing for the semester exams.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, there has been a phenomenal increase in admissions to foreign universities in the last 2-3 years. The upward surge is a result of increased awareness about various courses taught abroad, world-class education on offer and better future opportunities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Admissions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Generally, the last date for application to these universities extends up to August every year. Students can find the application forms at the respective websites of the universities and apply according to their choice.
