About Movie Mirzya<\/h3>\n

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has taken up the challenge of bringing to life the popular Punjabi love story of Mirza-Sahiban. When one picks up a story that many are already familiar with, the challenge lies in bringing the characters to life on a larger-than-life visual canvas. Mirzya is a love ballad that takes us on a musical journey through exotic visuals.<\/p>\n

While the original story is set in Punjab, Mirzya takes us into the exotic land of royalty and folklore \u2013 Rajasthan with a story of young lovers separated in their early years but meet up again in later years under challenging circumstances, only to re-kindle their earlier feelings for each other. The movie debuts Anil Kapoor\u2019s son, Harshvardhan Kapoor playing Mohnish in early years, and later as Aadil Mirza, while newcomer Saiyami Kher plays Suchitra. Anuj Chaudhary plays Prince Karan who is slated to marry Suchitra. And the tussle begins between the men to win over love like never before.<\/p>\n

Plot<\/strong><\/p>\n

The story revolves around two young friends Mohnish and Suchitra, whose friendship continues to blossom until young Mohnish is booked for murder and dispatched to a Juvenile home. Years pass, Suchitra goes to London to pursue her studies. Her ambitious father, played by Art Malik is keen that she marries Prince Karan, a royal. As fate would have it, she happens to come across Aadil, a horse trainer working in Prince Karan\u2019s stable and soon discovers his real identity as her long lost friend, Mohnish.<\/p>\n

Friendship, companionship, love, animosity and betrayal all float between the protagonists as the Director takes you through the ancient way of storytelling \u2013 the musical way. Mirzya is an extravagant experience with some fine soulful music to make up for the lack of suspense, since the story is already known to most.<\/p>\n

Performances<\/strong><\/p>\n

For a new comer, Harshvardhan is no chiselled six-pack hero of the likes of Hrithik Roshan or Tiger Shroff in their debuts, but he still manages to hold his own through the movie. Harshvardhan\u2019s role of Aadil is not an easy one and neither is his non-conventional look. For a newcomer, he has shown that he is a indeed a Kapoor, one that his father will surely be proud of.<\/p>\n

Saiyami Kher is far more comfortable getting into Suchitra\u2019s shoes and manages to grab viewer attention and perhaps a soft corner, which is more than most debutants can claim these days. The camera does justice to her as does the music, as she flits through a range of emotions caught between her childhood sweetheart and the man she is about to marry.<\/p>\n

Anuj Chaudhary, too, keeps pace with the two debutants as the confident Prince Karan.<\/p>\n

Om Puri delivers yet another powerful performance while the smooth actor Art Malik doesn\u2019t disappoint.<\/p>\n

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is no Leela Bhansali but then he isn\u2019t not too far behind either, as he delivers a visual delight with some fine romantic music.<\/p>\n

Mirzya Music<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shankar, Ehsan and Loy have once again proven why they rank amongst the best in the musical business as they give life to Mirzya through some soul stirring music.<\/p>\n

Gulzar has shown that he may have slowed down but still retains the magic of his touching lyrics.<\/p>\n

\nWhat\u2019s good?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The movie is worth watching for its musical storytelling through extravagant visuals. Pawell Dyllus has done a great job with cinematography as has Mehra with his direction. Worth a watch, especially if love ballads are your thing.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s bad?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mirziya is an adaptation of Mirza-Sahiban, a old but popular Punjabi story of love, so no mystery or suspense in the plot as it is already known. The movie lacks in story depth, which takes away the sheen from otherwise brilliant portrayal and visuals.<\/p>\n

Verdict<\/strong><\/p>\n

Certainly worth a one-time watch. Remember, it\u2019s the music and visuals that make it worthwhile. Acting is good but lack of depth in the story line takes away a lot of the good work put up by Harshvardhan and Saiyami.<\/p>\n
