plus and was conducted without any major untoward incident being reported. North Goa had a higher voter turnout with a record 84% turning up to exercise their franchise while South Goa had a 81.5%. The overall high percentage of turnout reflects high awareness of people regarding issues that concern them and the fact that the state election commission has been very active in creating awareness among people.<\/p>\n<p>Voting was peaceful with people turning up early to vote. Some places did report a few EVMs not functioning but mostly the election process went off without any major incident. However, one 78-year old person died while waiting to vote and voting was cancelled in one booth at Margao.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012 Assembly elections voter turnout was reported at 81.73%. In 2012, BJP won in alliance with MGP, however, in 2017 the party is fighting it alone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tri-corner fight this time<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With ex-Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar away from state politics, the party is facing anti-incumbency with INC likely to benefit the most. It remains to be seen how MGP and GVP eat into vote shares for the two main contending parties \u2013 BJP and INC. AAP is likely to emerge as the party spoiler and may just come out as the dark horse. Defence Minister Parrikar has hinted at going back to Goa to strengthen the party there but will await the poll outcome.<\/p>\n<p>Major issues in the state remain jobs, water sharing dispute with
