A lot of factors have contributed in making this movie a superhit, starting with an A-OK cast showing Dharmendra as the playful Veeru, Amitabh Bachchan as the witty Jai, Sanjeev Kumar as the revengeful Thakur Baldev Singh, Hema Malini as the yapper Basanti, Jaya Bhaduri as the quiet widow Radha and Amjad Khan as the notorious Gabbar Singh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Written by the duo Salim\u2013Javed (known for works such as<em> Deewar<\/em>, <em>Mr. India<\/em>, <em>Zanjeer<\/em>, among others), \u00a0<em>Sholay<\/em> was produced by G.P. Sippy and directed by Ramesh Sippy. Music maestro R.D. Burman was the man behind the movie\u2019s background score. His songs such as &#8220;<em>mehbooba&#8221;<\/em> and &#8220;<i>holi ke din&#8221;<\/i> are listened till date. The timeless song on the bond of friendship, &#8220;<i>yeh dosti&#8221;<\/i> is popular even among today\u2019s youth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Composed of a good plot, Sholay is a movie well told. The bold characters depict how a retired policeman, with the help of two smart con men, plan the downfall of a wicked dacoit. Interwoven within the story are instances of humour, action, and melodrama. With <em>mausi\u2019s<\/em> shrewd remarks, Soorma Bhopali\u2019s\u00a0 impeccable Bhopali accent, and a comical jailer from <i>angrezon ka zamana<\/i>, Sholay makes for a good laugh. A celebrated movie in the Indian cinema, many of its dialogues have become a part of our lingo, and even a way of life! Haven\u2019t we all heard the phrase \u201c<i>Jo darr gaya samjho marr gaya<\/i>\u201d at some point in our lives?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Performances by all actors are up to the mark, making even the roles of Kaalia and Sambha significant. Amjad Khan, who gained popularity after his villainous role in the movie, has portrayed the daring\u00a0 Gabbar Singh aptly. All the other lead actors also deserve a round of applause. The movie was shot in Ramnagaram near Bangalore, sometimes fondly remembered as Sippynagar<i>.<\/i> Keeping in mind the technology of the time, <em>Sholay<\/em> (especially the action sequences) is very well directed, owing to a commendable cinematography. No wonder it was one of the highest grossing movies of its time!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Overall, the movie is first rate, a must watch for all. Being a perfect blend of all cinematic elements, it offers thorough entertainment. All the movie buffs out there, don\u2019t miss it!
