If there is one word that can explain Pakistan Cricket Team – it’s\u00a0unpredictability. You never know which Pakistan team will turn up. One day they will come across as world beaters and the very next day they will look like the most\u00a0ordinary\u00a0team on the park.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For billions of India fans across the globe who bleed\u00a0blue,<\/span>\u00a0the Pakistan team that played the\u00a0final of<\/span>\u00a0Champions Trophy on Sunday were the world beaters.\u00a0Fakhar<\/span>\u00a0Zaman<\/span>\u00a0just four innings into his international\u00a0career<\/span>, struck a brilliant match-winning century. The opening stand of 128 between him and\u00a0Azhar<\/span>\u00a0Ali set the base for Pakistan’s huge total of 338 runs. Indian bowlers, apart from\u00a0Bhuvaneshwar<\/span>\u00a0Kumar, did not seem to have any control on the run rate.<\/p>\n

It was not a\u00a0chance less\u00a0innings by any stretch of imagination,\u00a0Fakhar\u00a0nicked to\u00a0Dhoni\u00a0in the fourth over but\u00a0Bumrah\u00a0over-stepped. There were\u00a0numerous\u00a0chances of thick edges and\u00a0mistimed\u00a0shots off bouncers that would almost become reliably fruitful.<\/p>\n

India’s main strength, their spinners,\u00a0were taken<\/span>\u00a0to cleaners in the middle overs and that was where Pakistan stamped\u00a0their authority<\/span>\u00a0on the game.\u00a0Fakhar<\/span>\u00a0hit 15 off one\u00a0Jadeja’s<\/span>\u00a0over and his off-balance sweep off Ashwin for four to reach his hundred was a fitting way to go to triple figures.<\/p>\n

After\u00a0Fakhar<\/span>\u00a0got out\u00a0Hafeez<\/span>\u00a0and Babar\u00a0Azam<\/span>\u00a0joined hands and kept the momentum going. India got two wickets in\u00a0Azam<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Shoaib<\/span>\u00a0Malik and looked to gain some control over the proceedings.\u00a0Imad<\/span>\u00a0Wasim<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Hafeez<\/span>\u00a0added 71 off the\u00a0final<\/span>\u00a045 balls of\u00a0the Pakistan<\/span>\u00a0innings and took the total to 338.<\/p>\n

To chase a target of 339 India needed their top 3 to come good. India’s top three\u00a0Rohit<\/span>,\u00a0Dhawan<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Kohli<\/span>\u00a0were in good form in the tournament and India pinned their hopes on them but Mohammad Amir who was returning from a back injury had other ideas. He pinned\u00a0Rohit<\/span>\u00a0Sharma plumb in front for nought to draw first blood.<\/p>\n

Amir was on a roll but he had the World’s number one batsman coming in next in the form of India’s Captain\u00a0Virat<\/span>\u00a0Kohli<\/span>. Amir had him\u00a0knicking<\/span>\u00a0to the first slip where\u00a0Azhar<\/span>\u00a0Ali dropped a sitter but Amir had\u00a0Kohli<\/span>\u00a0caught at point the very next ball to leave India reeling at 6 for 2.\u00a0Dhawan<\/span>\u00a0played a couple of good shots but he was Amir’s\u00a0third<\/span>\u00a0victim for 21.\u00a0Yuvi<\/span>,\u00a0Dhoni<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Jadhav<\/span>\u00a0fell in quick succession and at one time India\u00a0were reduced<\/span>\u00a0to 72 for 6 and were in danger of getting\u00a0bowled<\/span>\u00a0out for less than 100.<\/p>\n

Hardik<\/span>\u00a0Pandya<\/span>\u00a0played a brilliant lone hand of 76 off just 43 balls with 6 sixes to revive a small hope of an Indian comeback. But a misunderstanding between him and\u00a0Jadeja<\/span>\u00a0led to his run out and India folded like nine pins after his wicket\u00a0to be<\/span>\u00a0 all out for 158. It was an absolute thrashing in cricketing terms to get defeated by a margin of 180 runs.<\/p>\n

There were two heroes for Pakistan, one in batting and one in bowling.\u00a0Fakhar<\/span>\u00a0Zaman<\/span>\u00a0played\u00a0an innings to<\/span>\u00a0be remembered for a lifetime and Mohammad Amir bowled a dream spell in the same country where he\u00a0was suspended<\/span>\u00a0for five years for spot fixing. Nobody gave a chance to the Pakistan team after they lost the first match to India. It was more the manner in which they lost the game that left their fans heartbroken. But Pakistan made a strong comeback against South Africa and defeated the number one ranked team\u00a0and than<\/span>\u00a0they knocked the\u00a0Sri Lankan<\/span>\u00a0team out of the tournament.<\/p>\n

Next up for them were the tournament favorites and the host nation England and nobody gave them a chance but they gave one of their best performance and set up a\u00a0clash with the Indians. They saved their best for the last and the Indian team could not come back after the\u00a0initial<\/span>\u00a0assault by\u00a0Fakhar<\/span>\u00a0Zaman<\/span>.<\/p>\n

One thing that is not\u00a0to be<\/span>\u00a0missed is the captaincy by\u00a0Sarfraz<\/span>\u00a0Ahmed. He rallied the team after that\u00a0initial<\/span>\u00a0loss to India and is\u00a0to be<\/span>\u00a0given full credit for his team lifting the trophy. This is a memorable performance from a team that does not play any cricket in their home country, but to come out and play in\u00a0a tournament of<\/span>\u00a0Champions Trophy stature and win it in a\u00a0manner<\/span>\u00a0that Pakistan has done speaks volumes about the resolve and the skills this team has. Well played Pakistan. It’s a day to remember and you deserve all the praise that is coming your way. To Indian team, one bad day in the office does not make you bad.
