Far from the humdrum existence and chaotic fast-paced life of Metropolis, Okhla Bird Sanctuary offers respite and provides solace to the residents of the capital city of Delhi along with those of Uttar Pradesh. Okhla Bird Sanctuary is a favorite among birdwatchers. Okhla Bird Sanctuary is situated right on the Yamuna river between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. It is located in Noida, Gautam Budh Nagar District of the state of Uttar Pradesh. Okhla Bird Sanctuary is one of the fifteen bird sanctuaries of the state. A haven for water birds, Okhla Bird Sanctuary spreads over an area of four square km on the Yamuna. It is home to more than 320 bird species and beautiful plants.<\/p>\n

Silence and inquisitiveness work as an advantage for the curious birdwatcher. The diversity of migratory birds can only be witnessed if one learns to develop an eye for birds. Renowned poet, Nissim Ezekiel beautifully captures the magnificence of birds- \u201cTo note the movement of a timid wing, To watch the rare birds you have to go, Along deserted lanes and where the rivers flow, In silence near the source, or by the shore.\u201d Okhla Bird Sanctuary provides solace through the beautiful spectacle of innumerable birds and biodiversity. It was designated a bird sanctuary by the Uttar Pradesh Govt. in 1990. Okhla Bird Sanctuary is a beautiful bird sanctuary at the Okhla Barrage over the river Yamuna. No vehicle is allowed inside the sanctuary. However, for winter migratory birds the best season is during September-March.<\/p>\n

Main Attraction:-<\/strong><\/p>\n

Known for its exotic birds, Okhla Bird Sanctuary is a home away from home for innumerable birds. Visitors can view White-rumped vulture, Indian vulture (both of these are critically endangered) along with vulnerable species like Baikal Teal, Baer’s Pochard, Sarus Crane and Sociable Lapwing. Ferruginous Pochard, Black-bellied Tern and Grey headed Fish Eagle can also be sighted in the Okhla Bird Sanctuary. A haven for birds, Okhla Bird Sancturay is also home to Indian Skinmer, Pallas’s Fish Eagle, Lesser Adjutant, Bristled Grassbird along with Finn’s Weaver. Birdwatchers also sight Black-tailed Godwit, Common Redshank, Wood Sandpiper, Western Marsh Harrier along with Pied Avocet, Blue Throat to name a few.<\/p>\n

Okhla Bird Sanctuary is situated in Noida. The most reliable and convenient route to reach there is through Delhi Metro. The nearest metro station is Botanical Garden Metro Station. It takes approximately 10 mins to reach Okhla Bird Sanctuary from Botanical Garden Metro Station which is 3kms on road by three wheeler or cycle rickshaw.<\/p>\n
