This blog is for those who fall into the latter category. The street food although might not be the most nutritious food, but its savoury taste and drool-worthy sight can make you ditch your nutrition ethics any day. And when it comes to Delhi’s street food, you’re spoilt for choice. Below are listed some of the most tantalising and lip-smacking Delhi street foods.

1.Gol Gappe

This is the king of all the street food hands down. A hollow puri filled with spicy mashed potatoes, onions, and chickpeas is relished deliciously with a one-of-a-kind tart ‘paani’.

This out of the world experience gets even more heavenly when tried with tamarind (Imli) chutney as a filing.

Try these and Mumbai’s paani-poori will be a thing of the past.

Best Joints to Try Them:

Local market in Rajouri Garden

Chandni Chowk

Lajpat Nagar Market.

Om Sweets, Bikano, and Haldirams (A little costlier, but totally worth it)

2.Dahi Bhalle

Delhi is an undeclared paradise for those who love to gorge on dahi bhallas. Soft and crumbly dal vadas are topped generously with yogurt and tangy green & sweet red chutneys and then sprinkled with sev and sometimes chickpeas. Papri is a popular companion in the resulting colourful plate. This sweet, sour and spicy entwinement is superlative of all chaats – so delicious that you probably can’t ask more from a street snack!

Best Joints to Try Them:

Haldiram’s at Chandni Chowk

Dahi Bhalla Corner at Karol Bagh

Natraj Dahi Bhalla in Chandni Chowk

Shyam Ji Corner at Old Delhi Road

Atul Chaat Bhandar in Rajouri Market

3.Daulat ki Chaat

This delight is a creamy dessert with a handful of dried fruits, khoya, saffron and more. Interestingly, one of the main ingredients in this is the winter morning dew. Made with quite a painstaking process, the milk and cream are churned until they evolve into a frothy dessert. This sweet treat, however, is only seasonal and is available only from October to March. At some restaurant, you can find its more glamorous version.

Best Joints to Try Them:

Chandni Chowk

Indian Accent hotel (we urge you to visit there)

4.Chole Bhature

There is no better sight than a fluffy bhatura served along with spicy chole, imbued with a delicious gravy, on a rainy day (or just any day). This stellar delicacy when accompanied with green chilies, onions, achar, and chutney takes the drool quotient to the next level. At some places, you would even find the bhatures stuffed with cottage cheese which simply doubles the pleasure.
Although, Chole Bhature is quite common in others states, the care taken to put less soda to make bhature more pillowy and extra fluffy is something you would find in the capital only. So here’s an extra brownie point to Delhi’s street food.

Best Joints to Try Them:

Giani’s di Hatti in Chandni Chowk

Chache di Hatti in Kamla Nagar

Kwality Restaurant in CP

Roshan’s at Karol Bagh

Sita Ram Diwan Chand in Paharganj

Nand ke Chole Bhature in Sadar Bazaar

5.Aloo Tikki

Often patrons never leave an eatery without having a go at the aloo tikki. This is also one of the most ubiquitous street food and the reason is their hot spicy taste. These potato patties, stuffed with peas and spiced lentils, are fried on a griddle until they develop a crispy golden crust. Then they are typically topped with tamarind chutney, chickpeas, pomegranate seeds, finely chopped onions, sweetened curd and fresh coriander to deliver the most zesty avatar of potatoes.

Best Joints to Try Them:

Bitto Tikki Wala at NSP

Ranjeet Tikki Wala at Janak Puri

Atul Chaat Corner in Rajouri Garden

Natraj in Chandni Chowk

Whether you try these amazing street food at some street vendor or some reputed restaurant, you won’t leave disappointed.
