Saubhagya scheme<\/a> was launched by the Modi government<\/a> in September last year with a motive to electrify both rural and urban Indian households deprived of electricity by December 2018. The scheme took off well with 93% of the Indian households having access to the power supply as on date. As the closure date of the Saubhagya scheme is approaching, the government has decided to speed up the electrification process in the remaining states of the country. On October 15, the Power Ministry made an announcement of giving an award of Rs.100 crore to the states successfully completing the task of household electrification before December 2018.<\/p>\n The government has not limited this award scheme to the states only but has also included the employees of the discom, engaged in the supplying of power to these states. These employees would be liable for an award of Rs. 50 lakhs for completing the work of electrification in the remaining Indian households before the scheduled date. Out of Rs. 50 lakhs award, the amount of Rs. 20 lakhs will be distributed among the employees for their exceptional work towards the scheme.<\/p>\n States forming part of this award scheme<\/strong> These states are Bihar (98.11%), Jharkhand (88.27%), West Bengal (98.26%), Karnataka (96.43%), Rajasthan (93.89%), Chhattisgarh (98.31%), Telangana (96.54%), Uttarakhand (95.37%), Odisha (89.66%), Assam (80.56%), Jammu & Kashmir (90.81%), Sikkim (92.72%), Meghalaya (77.01%), Manipur (88.02%), Mizoram (93.13%), Nagaland (79.27%), and Arunachal Pradesh (75.77%). \nThe states (including the states with Special Category Status) falling under the ambit of the award scheme are categorized as follows –<\/p>\n\n
\nIt is definitely a matter of applause as there are Indian states which have already achieved the target of electrifying the Indian households up to 100 percent or have almost touched the 100 percent mark. Such states have been excluded from the award scheme of the government.<\/p>\n
\nGiving away monetary awards is undoubtedly an incredible way of encouraging the employees as well as the government of the states engaged in fulfilling the task of electrification of every Indian household before the estimated time.
