So, we’re here with some staples you should do each and every day to get glowing skin in winters.

1. Okay, here’s some science. Water helps to push the toxin out of your body and keep you hydrated. Experts recommend that you take at least 8 glasses of water a day. Plus, sipping on fresh fruit juices (we’re talking about the real fruit juices, not the ones that come in tins) keeps your fluid diet perfected. Here’s an extra bonus – water also aids digestion and boosts metabolism.

2. Moisturisers

It’s no rocket science your skin needs all the moisture it can get in harsh winters. But, you can do better at preserving in the moisture this season. Whenever you wash your face, apply the moisture right away on the damp skin only. This will seal in the moisture. Better yet keep a moisturiser near your sink, the show stall or bathtub, so you never miss on it.

Also, check if your moisturiser has petroleum-based ingredients. These can do more bad than good to your skin. They can further dry it up – the last thing you want in chilly months. Pick one which has nourishing ingredients like jojoba, chamomile, lavender, and the likes of them. Also, take one which is an oil-based solution instead of one which is water-based. In the end, beauty is moisturised skin deep only!

One quick tip: As much as we love the hot water in winters for bathing, it should be avoided as it strips off necessary oils skin needs. Try sticking to lukewarm water only.

3. A good night sleep

Nothing, we repeat, nothing can replace your beauty sleep. Most beauticians recommend 8 hours of sleep, but if you are one of those who need a straight 10 hours of sleep, then don’t let any alarm tell you any differently. Take all the rest you need. A good night’s sleep is mandatory to look your best and not develop dark circles. And, this is all the time your body gets to repair damaged cells and relax, after the 9-5 tiresome day.

4. Think again. Dermatologists recommend that whether you are outdoors or indoors, whether it’s winters or summers, sunny or cloudy, you should have a good SPF sunscreen re-application every 2 hours. It not only puts pigmentation at hold but also slows down the ageing process caused by the sun rays. It’s the irreplaceable ingredient for spotless skin. So stay loyal to your sunscreen and it’ll stay loyal to you.

6. But, sadly the fats you can’t get with gorging on ice creams or the one that you get from cheese, chips, and cakes. It’s the foods rich in Omega-3 like avocado that come to your rescue. Nutritionists advise a small avocado, and a few nuts every single day. And, you can not only eat it but wear it too. On your face. As a mask. It increases the collagen content, fundamental for healthy skin. As a mask, you can make a paste of it with aloe, jojoba, olive, and almond oil. But, its effect dwindles down to zilch if you don’t exfoliate. An exfoliated skin is healthy skin, fact. Exfoliation helps to rub away the dead skin cell layer and allows the applied moisture get in. It also helps the skin to absorb nutrients. However, it should be immediately followed by moisturisation. Which type of exfoliation mask should be used largely depends on the skin type – oily, dry, or normal. For dry skin, it’s best to use one that is honey-based. For oily skins, physical exfoliators like a cleansing device or a scrub are your best bet. And, for normal skin, use a finely granulated exfoliator. Your skin will thank you.

8.
